I got diagnosed with endometriosis in my ovaries with an MRI scan in September. I am due to have a surgery in December to confirm the diagnosis and take out any endometriosis. I have had a few rounds of severe pain and was told it was ovarian cysts bursting and leaking in to my pelvis. I have been off work since August with the constant pain and the in unpredictable flare ups of burst cysts.
I guess i am looking for any tips from your experience with surgery and how you felt and what i should do to make things easier. I am terrified of the surgeon going in to my pelvis and not finding anything. I read that endometriosis can only be 100% diagnosed through surgery. I do not want for my pain to have no definitive because as it’s hard to get people to believe my pain if the cause is not known. I have already been through that, no one believed the pain i was in before the diagnosis.

I’m literally in a hospital bed (can’t sleep) after having my lap and removal of left ovary and cyst and cyst on my right. My cysts have never burst but I got sporadic severe pain in my left hand side during ovulation.
The op was not as bad as I feared. Although my cyst an endometrial cyst (left, right seems regular cyst) there was no real other endo found although the consultant thinks I have adenomyosis. I’m actually pretty glad there is no massive endo as they suspected there was. Disappointed though as I’d hoped for a reduction in menatrual bleeding which consultant doesn’t think will now happen.
A lap will hopefully give you answers to what is going on. It might not be the ones you are looking for. For me- the main reason for the lap was to remove my large ovarian cyst as I’m approaching menopause and they have higher risk of turning cancerous.
Thank you for your reply, i really appreciate it. I have cysts both ovaries over 2 inches and the reason for my surgery is avoiding random cyst bursts. Also to help with chronic pain, fatigue and indigestion. It’s also to make 100% sure that my cysts are benign. My ca125 level was just under 6000, it has fallen to 350. Still high but much better. I am 25 so cancer is very unlikely.
Since i have been resting for almost 3 months - i am only just beginning to recover somewhat. Hopefully surgery will help even more with my road to recovery.
Good to hear you have surgery booked for December. I know that having a laparoscopy can be a daunting prospect; however it really is the best way of diagnosing endometriosis and can also be used to treat endometriosis.

The main thing to remember is that you are entitled to ask questions of your doctors who will be performing your surgery to ensure you are comfortable and try to remember that everyone's experience and recovery time are different and that you should take your time and take it easy when recovering.
