Laparoscopic surgery - disappointed

I had my 3rd laparoscopy on Thursday and I'm really angry and disappointed with it all!

I had my last laparoscopy in 2013 and had mild Endo and ablitation of Endo in the pouch of Douglas.

This year my period pain has been worse than ever so I decided to seek help. I had an MRI and was told that I had thickening in the pouch of douglas and it's highly likely that it's returned. The consultant was against doing surgery due to Covid but agreed to do it in the end.

I am at the point of not being able to deal with the pain every month and have to knock myself out with more than advised amount of pain killers just to get me through.

On Thursday I was in the theatre for 10mins (as recorded on my report) and came out and was told there was nothing at all wrong with me. That I was just having painful periods!

This was all done at a private hospital (cost me a fortune) and I really don't know what to do next or where to get help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried having a hormonal coil fitted? Mine has definitely reduce intensity of the pain I would get that use to floor me, its just a shame that its not it the right place and had caused bleeding and spotting and all that horrible stuff when I'm not due on. Some months the pain has come back nearly like normal, but I assume that's cos the coils not where it should be, I imagine if it was it would work even better.

I've heard people say it hasn't helped but many who say it has. It's free on the NHS so it's 100% worth a shot.

Bare in mind I found it excruciatingly painful to get inserted, they said its cos I haven't had kids, so be prepped with those pain killers before you go in. 😂

Yes I'm constantly being told I should get it by HCPs. I am also diabetic and struggle with my pump and CGM as they are put under my skin and my body likes to reject them. So I'm very hesitant to implant something more permanent as I'm pretty sure my body will reject that too.

Hello Trezz5,

I’m sorry this has happened to you. I’m unsure how they could have determined you just have painful periods. Can you request your hospital records to see exactly what they did during your laparoscopy? I would definitely consider putting in a complaint to the hospital and it’s you get no resolution you can take it further.

I hope you get some answers

Hi

Know about being told its just painful periods- Because endo causes scar tissue

to build up ( when it bleeds) . Which as a stupid woman we all have= sorry for the pun.

Private or even NHS pro-long the suffering ( ladies waiting more than seven years

before getting treatment.

Some natural products may help but you need to decide what / ginger helps nausea

your diet - what you have everyday mint/rosemary plus others either in teas etc/oils

Long- term pain causes social, mental stress etc. Depending on your age next steps

- with support from family/friends- gentle exercise after this last check at the clinic.

Walking or things you are able to do right now, your body needs to recover.

Keep well- Painkillers do help but cause stomach problems- upset- plus could

various other general problems.

10 minutes! That's insane. Even with private health care you have to be cautious. You forget it's big business itself and doesn't usually equate to adequate, let alone superior healthcare.I can completely empathise with your frustrations. I would let the consultant know that you're dissatisfied with his service, request your surgery report from them and relay everything back to your GP and other Endometriosis Specialists (NHS & Private) to get their second opinion.

If you've been diagnosed with endometriosis before and continue to experience symptoms, it's highly likely it has returned. That's what the science says.

Only excision surgery has the potential of reducing the likelihood of it returning and it's so specialised, it's rarely done.

Don't feel disempowered. If you're not happy with the service you've received let them know. You can launch an official complaint too.

All the best x

I’m so sorry for your experience. 10 mins is ridiculous. I would definitely request records. It’s a lot to go through just for them to tell you painful periods. Just because it’s private doesn’t mean it’s perfect. All my healthcare is private but people are still people and make mistakes cut corners etc. maybe when you are ready try another surgery or just try something else for pain management. But I do empathize with you on your recent experience it sounds exceedingly frustrating. Especially since you had to pay for it. If there is any way you can file a complaint as well that might help you or maybe the next person.
