I had a pelvic MRI scan yesterday to rule out infiltrative endometriosis. My consultant said she wouldn’t phone me unless there’s anything to report? I suffer with quite bad anxiety regarding my health so this isn’t the best situation with me. Anyone know how long MRI results take to get back and will I get a letter anyway?

Hiya. When I had an MRI on my back and something showed up they rang me 2 days later, so I’d had an MRI on Tuesday afternoon and received a call Thursday lunchtime, they are usually quite quick, same with bloods, I’ve been rang the same day as a blood test when something shows up. But Honestly do not worry about the MRI. I had mine and then I didn’t get a follow up for about 2 weeks where my consultant told me no endo showed on the MRI so did I still want to go ahead with the lap as they may not find anything. I still went ahead, glad I did, and I’m now 3 weeks post lap. He found endo everywhere, including bowel and pouch of Douglas, I also have a hydrosalpinx on the left side too. To quote him he said it was a mess! So I wouldn’t think too much about the MRI and just focus on the lap when it comes around. A lot of ppl told me on here when I had my MRI that even if it shows nothing it won’t mean I don’t have endo. Good luck with you lap and keep your chin up. Xxx
Ah I see! I thought I would be waiting around anxiously for ages 😩 I wish they would just say one way or another but I guess they don’t have time if nothing to report! Oh wow!! Glad you have finally been able to figure out what is going on with you!
I don’t think they completely needed the MRI but I am glad my gynae is being thorough! I have been put on the list for lap so guess it is just a waiting game now!
But thank you!!! I appreciate your response and the reassurance! ☺️
You have a right to request the results either way, regardless of if they find anything or not. They should have a report ir comments from the specialist and you have a right to know. So be confident and persistent with them. Yes they might be busy, but your results are important to you and you have a right to know either way what they're findings are.......also just to mirror what was said earlier, that even though an mri might show nothing, you can still have endometriosis, as the only real way to know is through a laparoscopy. So again you can insist that something is still not right and that you want further investigations......these professionals sometimes need to know that you are not backing down, and if you show a bit of confidence that you know your rights they finally get the message.
Its a shame that it's a battle just to be investigated with this illness, but unfortunately it is.
Good luck with everything and let me know how you get on.😀 xxx
Please ensure that your Gynecologist is an Endo specialist. You can look on the BGSE website. If you struggle, ring the endometriosisuk helpline. Look on the website for opening times.
