Combined pill to help with severe period pain?

Hi all, I'm new here and have been experiencing extreme period pain to the point I took a visit to A&E last month. I have been prescribed mefenamic acid in the past which did work but then last month I suffered the extreme period again. I have read about Endometriosis and have just had a dr's appointment and she said to try the combined pill as I have yet to try anything hormonal yet. She also said she'd be more than happy to do a referral to gynae but that they'd probably suggest trying the pill before a laparoscopy. I said I'd trial the pill for 3/6 months and see how I get on but now I'm stressing that I should have just asked for a gynae referral as I'm a bit worried about side effects of the pill anyway and I've suffered with bad period pains for a while. Has anyone had any success with the pill in reducing period pains or should I ring back and say I've had a think and I think I would like the gynae referral now?

Hey I was on the combined pill for several years and I think it did mask my symptoms a lot as over time they got worse and it became less effective so I came off it eventually…Last year I was put on the combined pill again but constantly with no break whilst waiting a laparoscopy which did help quite a lot with not having periods so it’s worth doing to help your day to day pain. Maybe ring your DR again and ask them to refer you to gynae but maybe start the combined pill whilst you’re waiting for your gynae referral? X
