I am reasonably new although I have been lurking a bit and I am also fairly seasoned on other forums. Although it was suspected for a while that I might have Endo as I have Adenomyosis (also previously bad dose of Fibroids) it was only just diagnosed last month.
I am scheduled to have robotic excision of Deep Infiltrating Endo and a total hysterectomy with both ovaries removed on Aug 7th. Has anyone had this kind of surgery before? I am wondering about recovery times as I am trying to gauge whether it is actually a faster recovery than regular laparoscopic surgery like they say?
I'd like to be prepared mentally, but also, I am currently doing an undergrad degree and due to start classes again mid September, I need to decide whether I am going to be able to start the year (I'll be repeating) or if I should postpone for a year?
So anyone who has been through robotic surgery, I'd love to hear your experiences please?
TIA

Hey Innaminn, I'm undiagnosed and haven't had a hysterectomy, but I am waiting for my laproscopy and it's due to be done around November time...a month after I begin my second year of my undergrad degree in English Language and German Language. Doing 90 credits starting in Oct, alongside being a paid Student Buddy this year 😱 I also have 2 kids, both with autism and adhd. So it's a worry for me this year too, panicking and wondering if I will ever manage everything. But, my learning mentor last year was really helpful so I'll be taking advantage of that again. Have you claimed for Disabled Student Finance? That's a huge help! Also, make sure you tell your university and tutor everything that's happening. That way they can grant extensions and take your personal circumstances into consideration when marking your work, this can level the playing field for you and make your life less stressful, it's called "special considerations" when a student has "extraordinary circumstances" (like health issues, death in the family, having a baby etc) and the tutor needs to factor them in. So if you do decide to go ahead and do the degree then there's safety nets in place to help you but do what's best for you chick I hope you manage to get things sorted out xxx
Thanks hun, jeez, you have a lot on your plate!! I wouldn't be able to do the surgery during the semester, I tried that last year just to fix a hernia that I had had years after my fibroids and the recovery from that really screwed me until this summer, I never was able to catch up. Yes, my tutors and everyone are fully up to speed, the senior tutor was the one who suggested I withdraw from the year and repeat as I was very unwell with the stress of it all.
On the money side of things I am in Ireland so not able to get the same financial aid but I'm reasonably OK on that front. I am getting the repeat grants though which is great. Anyway, thanks for replying
