Mirena coil pain

I had the Mirena coil fitted just two days ago and I am still in absolute agony. I’ve had to phone in sick at work today. Has anyone else had this and if so when did the pain ease off? I have read that you shouldn’t have any pain effecting your daily activities. I really can’t cope with it anymore and I am thinking I just want it out already. The coil fitting was the worst pain I have ever experienced and the GP said my uterus was trying to reject the coil during the fitting.

Hi Luci. I'm sorry to hear that! I was in the same position. I also got an infection straight after fitting which only added to already excruciating pain and it had to be treated with an antibiotics injection on top of many antibiotics tablets. The pain never went so after 3 months I went to the clinic and asked to take it out! The doctor refused (they get paid for every fitting) but I told them that I wasn't leaving until she took it out there and then! I didn't give her a choice! No, you shouldn't be in pain! And if you are, your body is rejecting the coil and you should listen to your body. Anyway, that's my advice. Good luck!

Hi thanks for your reply. I have had it removed today and I feel so much better already. The doctors wanted me to give it longer but I was in agony and I knew if my body was trying so hard to reject the coil now that it wouldn’t ever be any benefit for me. I could hardly walk and could feel it constantly stabbing into me. I was also getting shooting contraction pains in my back and hips which was spreading down my right leg. I am so glad to have had it taken out!
