Gedarel pill and 4am hospital trip

Early hours of this morning I joined the hospital-with-pain gang, I always considered myself so lucky to not have pains so bad from endo I needed to be hospitalised, but that came to an end last night!

I started on gedarel conception 5 days ago and have had nothing but horrific side effects from it, including this excruciating pain. It’s slightly ironic because before prescribing me this one my gp actually checked my endo doctor at Winchester hospital that this is fine for endo and wouldn’t flare it up etc, it just shows HOW different our bodies are and it’s just ridiculous we’re still in a trial and error stage with things like this.

I hate contraceptive methods, I think tampering with your bodies hormones only proves bad (for me, I know some I’m sure see it as a saving grace), but I was forced to do something since not having a period for nearly 9 months - partly due to the depo injection and partly who knows!

It is just so strange how my pain - the horrific, kill me now, rip your hair out type of pain - is only in the middle of the night. It was literally the exact same time two nights in a room (about 5 hours after taking the pill each evening) but last night I got treated to two additional bouts an hour and a half apart.

Has anyone else suffered so horrifically after a change like this? I’m petrified to ever try contraception again now

K xx

Sorry to hear that you've been suffering. I'm currently on Prostap3 and Tibolone and been experiencing a return of my severe pelvic pain symptoms, and I've had to go to the out of hours doctor twice and I've bought prescribed oramorph. Have you been put on the combined pill? Have you ever had Prostap or similar treatment? I'm seeing my consultant this evening. Funnily enough, he's based at Winchester but I'm seeing him privately because I've June moved from Wales and I have to be referred from scratch and join the waiting list!

Take care and I hope you're feeling better soon xx

Hello, thank you. And I’m sorry yours has flared up too, it seems like endo is so sensitive to different things triggering it for everyone.Yes Gedarel is a combined pill, and last year they also tried me on Rigevidon but I don’t get on with that either, of course not as bad as with this pill but it didn’t help with my pain during the month and other side effects outweighed it’s benefits for me, which now seems to be a common thought behind every contraception method!

Oh lovely! Which doctor is it? I’ve no doubt come into contact with them ha.

That seems crazy to me that there is even such a thing as a waiting list, I guess it’s because of Covid backlog?
