I need some help. I have severe pain, cramping, spasming on a daily basis that means I have to come into a&e on a regular basis as all pain medication barely has an affect! It has been recommended to me to try either the more a or a progesterone only pill to minimise the estrogen and this the pain. I’m wondering what others experiences of these are so that I can make an informed decision.
Many thanks

Hi I don’t have any advice on the subject but I’m ringing the doctors myself today to ask to be put on a progesterone contraceptive pill. I have tried provera which was great to start with but after a few months made me worse so I’m hoping a contraceptive pill will help ease the symptoms. I did see one women wrote she uses cerelle and it has really helped her to I will be requesting that today. Will happily let you know how I get on after a few weeks xx
2007-2021 I used a Mirena - life changing and eased all symptoms. I hardly had a period and before the Mirena I had first lap...diagnosed and had ablation to remove it all. Then gnhr analogue injections and that was bliss compared to before.
So Mirena kept me going for many years with no symptoms 2007-2018.
That’s a lot of life!!!

Hi. I was put on the progesterone only pill after the combined pill didn’t work for me. I found that the progesterone only pill didn’t work for me either. It stops your period which is a bonus as you don’t have the crippling pain around your period however it doesn’t help the pain at all.
To be honest, I feel like the pills made my pain worse. My pain is worse now than what it was before I took the pills. I don’t know if this is because it’s progressively getting worse or because of the pills...
Really dissapointed as I hoped they’d provide pain relief but they didn’t.
I found ibuprofen is usually really helpful when I have a flare up and it usually works quite quick as well.
The Mirena Coil saved my life! I had mine inserted under anaesthetic (but only because I was in my late 40s and had never had a pregnancy/birth, and had a very narrow opening to the uterus). After almost a lifetime of being on the pill (never wanted children)... plus when husband had the 'snip' my Drs refused the mirena (????) so I still had to stay on the pill. If I tried to stop the pill, my pains became much worse - very quickly. This was also what happened after a laparoscopy which removed some endo tissue ... except it all grew back, quickly, and much, much worse. Hence, eventually the mirena.
The huge advantage over the pill is that the mirena is 'sitting' exactly where the progesterone chemicals need to be , to act on the endo tissue. Thus, there is far less progesterone, and it is not having to 'course' all over your system, before reaching the small target area - which is what happens with pills and patches. Progesterone patches etc. have much more in them, and it has to travel all over your body, for some of it to have an effect on the one area where it is needed.
I did not have any significant pain, after insertion ... plus I was then 'endo' and 'period' pain-free within a month or so ... and then utterly pain-free for 5+ years, prior to removal.
It took me sometime to understand but this is really a matter of trial an error! For some people it works but you dont know beforehand. I tried Mirena, my enlarged uterus and multiple fibroids kicked it out of my body in 2 days.. then minipill but didnt work , now im on progesterone but on higher dossis than minipill, it stops my periods, which is great, but i feel really bad! (Side effects , stomach issues, mind fog, headaches) so I take while waiting for surgery.
I’m due an appointment on the first as I had my ivf out on hold due to the severe pain. I’m hoping I have my op soon but may need an alternative pill or mirena in the interim. My Endo is also in my rectum 8cm legion so crippling me. Hoping they sort me out soon.
