PMDD, Endo and the Marina Coil

Hi Everyone,

This is my first time posting in this group. I was officially diagnosed with Recto Vaginal Endo at the end of last year after 15 years. I've since had it removed and been put on the Marina Coil. Physically I'm so much better than I was but I started getting really depressive episodes including suicidal thoughts. It's starting to effect my personal relationships and work. I thought these episodes were just random and didn't even think about it being menstrual related because I have the coil and don't really have a proper period anymore but I started tracking the dates of when i'm feeling like this and it it's every month bang on where I would have had my period. I've made the first steps to talk to a therapist but I just want to know if anyone else has experienced the same thing or something similar?

Thanks

Willow

I’m so sorry to hear you’re feeling this way, that’s horrible. I do am familiar with this side effect of hormonal treatment. I think the chance is very big it is caused by your mirena coil. The combined pill made me feel depressed and like I was going crazy, so I quit. I tried the Mirena twice and had it removed twice after about one year because of side effects like joint pain, headaches, sore boobs, moodiness, restlesness, bloating and the list goes on...I would recommend removing the coil and see if you feel better. If so, maybe it’s worth investigating other options to prevent/delay the endo like acupuncture and diet... or different hormonal treatment, though personally I wouldn’t want to try.

Hi, I’ve never had a diagnosis of PMDD but I believe I suffered from it.

I’ve always been extremely emotional but I noticed a few months after restarting the depo shot I had really bad separation anxiety and honestly completely ridiculous uncontrollable crying and I believed it was hormonal, so stopped the shot and tried the mirena as I was told it’s more local and shouldn’t affect my mood. I improved for a couple of months and then started to go downhill again to the point I felt completely worthless and insisted they removed it just before the 6 month point.

I never tracked the dates as I hadn’t had a period in a long time, but I’ve been loads better mentally since being off hormones, only with occasional severe mood effects. Unfortunately I started experiencing endo like symptoms 4 months after removal.

I have considered that if I have to take hormonal contraception to help with endo (if confirmed) and help my future fertility, asking if antidepressants can be taken along side, might be worth asking about for you too? I’m not sure how it all works though.

Hope you get answers and help soon

X

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I don't really want to get mine taken out if I can help it as they've said if my endo comes back in the same place they will have to take out part of my bowel. I might talk to my doctor about the anti depressants, that's a good Idea, thank you. x

I suffered from side effects, depression and suicidal thoughts when I had the mirena coil. I had it removed. It took my body about 3 months to regain its balance but I felt I'd deal with endo better with my head together.(Sorry for the short reply I've having a flare up and totally exhausted atm)
