Recovery times for laproscopy

Hi all I had an op on 13 April 2021 to remove 7cm ending cyst on left ovary, left ovary also removed as well as both Fallopian tubes plus they had to detatch right ovary which was stuck to uterus. In recovery now but still experiencing pain down below (feels like it did when I had stitches down below after giving birth) very tender. Tummy feels swollen. Very tired still. On paracetamol and ibrprofen. Bit worried as hospital said it takes between 2 days to 2 weeks to recover but I’m not back to normal yet. Getting very down and tearful. Would welcome any advice/ reassurance on recovery times.

Hi Tessval,Sorry to hear you're sore and feeling down. It will get better as it heals.

For a simple laparoscopy, it takes about 1 week to move around ok, 2 weeks to start feeling better, and actually a full 2 months to heal all the way to the point of skipping & jumping as though you'd never had surgery.

Because you've had a more extensive surgery than a simple lap to look around, it could take a little longer to feel better again.

Sending you a virtual hug! 🌿🌼🌿

Hi Tessval, I had mine on the 22nd March and had stage 4 endo, very similar to yours. The last few days I have felt awful and just not right. Saw my GP and she said I’m healing and it could take up to 6 months to feel better. I have had 2 caesarean’s and know that this is about right. I took ibuprofen and paracetamol on rotation and that seemed to help. The only pain I get now which can take my breath away is a stabbing pain on my left side where they removed my tube and majority of the ovary, it comes and goes but when it’s there it’s just awful. My first proper period was heavier too and painful for a few days and in the past I have never really suffered. Just give yourself time to heal and take baby steps. It’s far more invasive than you realise, xxx

Hi SS10 thanks for that. It’s so reassuring to know that others have felt this way too. Hope you feel better soon too x

Hi how are you feeling? I’m still not great still getting throbbing pains which feel like they coming deep inside my vagina/ rectum. Trying paracetamol/ibrobofrn and tramadol but pain still there although I get moments of respite. Very tired still. She done booods and internal exam and it all looks ok. Been back to docs 3 times. She done bloods (all ok) and internal exam and it all looks ok. She going to write to gynaecologist for me. I’m fed up. Think I had better quality of life before my op! I have an 11Year old daughter and 14 year old son. Really need to get back to health for them and me.

Oh no! I’m much better thanks, but defo felt it and still feel it now at times. I did go back to the doctor and spoke to my consultant and he just said it will take time as he’s done so much to me. Totally get what you mean about life before, I was stronger, leaner, had more get up and go, and now, i just feel ugh some days and others I’m fine. Give it time and don’t run before you can walk, you’ve had c-sections like me and, we forget we’re 11 and 14 years on now and can’t just jump back, sending lots of love hon, xxx

Ah thanks for your reply. Glad you feeling better. I think I’ve Finally come to the realisation it’s one day at a time. Turned the corner a little bit a couple of days ago but then pain again yesterday evening and in early hours. Hoping i will inch my way back to health and pain free life. I made myself go for a swim yesterday and I felt about 70yeard old. Was in slow lane and I’ve never had to do the slow lane! The whole Illness/ operation/ recovery experience is very humbling as it makes you realise how health his so important - we all say it but until it’s been taken away or impacted in some way, I don’t think we can really appreciate it. Have a lovely weekend and hope you keep getting better. X

I had mine on the 29th April, they also re opened my c-section scar too. I'm recovering but so slowly. The pain isn't as bad anymore thankfully but I'm in alot of discomfort and can't bend or lift anything.. My physical health is poor anyway due to other health conditions and my GP told me to expect to take longer to heal because of it.

Thanks Titch. So sorry about your other health conditions. I’d imagine it makes recovery much slower. I can’t believe how tired I am and the pulsating aches in my inner thighs and hips and groin are unexpected. I thought it would just be in my tummy area. Rest up and I hope you start to feel better soon 😀
