Zoladex and Tibolone

Hi everyone!

I’ve (finally!) been offered a different treatment for my endometriosis! They won’t do another lap because I had one 4 years ago and they said there’s a risk of scarring and making it worse (please let me know if that’s true!).

They have offered me Zoladex and tibolone and gave me a leaflet for zoladex but said to look up tibolone. From the way they described it, zoladex will put me on medically induced menopause but the tibolone is hormone replacement and will counteract any side effects. I was also told it will treat the pelvic and thoracic endo.

Has anybody had zoladex and tibolone and still had menopause side effects? Also does anybody know if fertility will definitely go back to normal once I come off it?

Quite worried about medical menopause as I’m only 26 and want to have children in the next couple of years.

Any advice/experience would really be appreciated!

Thank you Xxx

Hello, I've literally just started this form of treatment (albeit I'm on Prostap and Tibolone). I had my first Prostap injection on 12th April and I've been given conflicting advice about taking the Tibolone. My GP said that I must take it, whereas the junior doctor in the endo clinic said to only take if I get menopausal symptoms. Anyway, I saw my actual consultant yesterday and he confirmed that you can take Tibolone from the outset and it doesn't trigger more endometriosis.

Re the age of having this chemical menopause, I also asked my consultant this question and he said that it's a common treatment used for endometriosis in women in their 20s, and it's even prescribed for women who suffer with PMDD. He said that the youngest person he has treated is 16. The chemical menopause is reversible.

Hope that helps xx
