Imposter Syndrome and Surgery Date

Hi everyone,

I have a date for a laparoscopy for 28th April- does anyone have any tips/advice for this and anything that I should be asking my specialist beforehand?

I’m also getting worried that I’ll go through this and the lap won’t show any endometriosis. I know it sounds silly but I’m definitely having some imposter syndrome.

Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you!

Hi, I was on the nhs waiting list for almost a year but have now decided to go private for the op as I couldn’t take it any more. It was a really quick turnaround and I found out just over a week ago about the date. Are you waiting on nhs? Thank you xx

Hey hun, this is common! I read all the time women saying they are worried it’s all in their head. Remember your doctors wouldn’t put you through surgery if they didn’t confidently believe there was any value / chance of finding something. Good luck with your Op! ❤️

I had extreme imposter syndrome before my lap. And it’s very common too!! We’re told our whole lives that “period pain is normal”, so of course that’s going to distort our sense of reality. What helped me prior to surgery was listening to my body—in my heart I knew that something was very wrong. I told myself that even if it wasn’t endo, at least I’d be one step closer to finding out what it is by crossing something off the list. If others haven’t believed your pain or treated your symptoms with seriousness in the past, remember your symptoms are very real and you deserve your surgery to find answers!!

Thank you so much for your reply, it’s always good to hear it’s not just me and helps to feel less alone through the process! You’re definitely right, we know our own bodies better than anyone- I will definitely take that approach that I will be one step closer to finding out some answers even if it isn’t endo. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer me ❤️

Yes we all think that, it’s because the drs tell us we r imagining it. I have learnt to believe in myself as we know our own bodies. Hope it all goes well. Keep us posted xx
