It's been 5 weeks since my lap, so I decided bravely that I'd try hatha yoga for beginners (I'm using the Down Dog app, which I like). It was a curious feeling using the muscles in my abdominal area for the first time in so long. I think it helped with the strange cramping a bit (I've had twinges & cramps in the front muscles of my pelvis since the lap). I feel really weak - it's going to take a while before I'm back up to regular strength again. The overall dull ache in the pelvis is still there, but maybe just a bit less after the yoga.
Does anyone else do yoga to try to help with yoga? And if yes, what does it feel like before & after?
I do, and it has been difficult getting back to after my laparoscopy. I searched yoga for after abdominal surgery on YouTube and found some good videos with very gentle things to start off with. They gave a time frame for waiting to even do that, which I think was a few weeks. I’m five months out and I’ve now been able to move on to more strenuous videos but I found I needed to be really gentle at first. I think it really depends on how much you had done and how your own body reacts.
I’ve been doing a weekly zoom yoga class which my friend runs. I feel like it’s really helped to slowly build up a bit more strength in my body overall. I’ve still got endo on my bowel so I try and be careful when doing the back bend/cobra type moves. We do a meditation at the end which is lovely for just winding down. I usually feel so tired straight after but I find that it really helps with my energy levels the next day. I have had weeks where I’ve missed it as just so knackered, but have really felt the benefits when I’ve pushed myself to do it. I started it 2 months after my laparoscopy, and definitely found it challenging at first. Good luck and just maybe don’t push yourself to much at first as I’ve heard that it can take a few months for our insides to properly heal after surgery x
