Hello everyone, has anyone taken utrogestan a natural progestrone, to help with endometriosis not specially for HRT purposes? which seems to be how it is generally prescribed. I am 43 and considering this as an alternative to the pill. If anyone tried it, did you need bloods tests to show there was a need for it or was it used as part of HRT? I am aware it can be prescribed privately, if indicated with hormone testing but obviously costs are high.
My GP doesn't want to prescribe it as she only recognises it for HRT not for managing endometriosis. Some ladies on here seem to have taken it with other hormone prescribed medications. Generally it seems progestins such as cerazette that I am taking aren't the same as bioidentical progesterone. The only pharmaceutical natural progesterone utrogestan still also appears to come with a list of side effects which may or may not be manageable.
Has anyone has taken or tried it, how did you do on it? and were tests needed to show a need for it.

Hi, I would be interested to hear about people’s experience of this. I have the depo provera injection which is progesterone only and that manages my endo quite well. I know this doesn’t answer your question! Hope you get some helpful advice
Thanks for replying. Good to know the depo is helping, have any side effects been manageable? I was offered this by my GP but reading the side effects at the time stopped me going for it, of course all meds have side effects and I know Depo is completely reversible.
I did read a post on here suggesting for someone using utrogestan improved their period and symptoms but didn't stop the period .
Hi, the depo helps me a lot, I honestly don’t think I could cope without it. I have had a couple of breaks but the endo symptoms were so bad. I haven’t had many side effects so it has been good for me. In the long term depo can affect bone density though. Have you seen a specialist or just your GP re: your endo management?
Hi, I was dx in 1993. Had diathermy in 2012. I've got a telephone appointment on Thurs with a consultant or his team. Hoping for surgery and looking at options long term really. Really glad the depo helps so well for you.
Hello,I use it for two month lately, it has no effects on endo symptoms, still have same feelings and pain, my period becomes unstable (becomes shorter), for me it didn't help with endo, except it makes me sleep after one or two hours like its side effects.
Now the doctor gives me Orgametril 5mg, I had two yesterday, I'll tell you if it works. All the best.
Hi, thanks for letting me know about Utrogestan, yes let me know how you get on with Orgametril whatever you experience I know it can take a couple of months to know sometimes with meds. Did you need any tests to get utrogestan, was it prescribed for Endo or as part of HRT?
Hi there, I saw a private doctor who suggested Utrogestan. I've been taking it for 5 months now, and although my bowel symptoms are still awful, I found after 2 months my periods became less painful with less blood loss. It's not the whole answer but it has certainly helped me and I'm continuing with it. I've not had any negative side effects.
