Continuous Utrogestan after hysterectomy?

Hi everyone! My little back story....

I was diagnosed with endometriosis back in 2015, skip forward to 2020 and my symptoms got a whole lot worse. I was diagnosed with severe DIE (bowel, ureter and pouch of Douglas), adenomyosis and an endometrioma all affecting my left pelvis.

I had a hysterectomy, both ovaries removed, bowel shave and ureter untethered, as well as excision in 2021 under a BSGE specialist.

Since April 2022 I have been on Evorel Conti patches, these have helped with hot flushes and sleeping but my mood is as I can only describe "flat" and I'm getting increasing pelvic pain again.

My GP has changed my HRT to Evorel 75 patches and utrogestan tablets. I've just picked up the prescription today.

My question is should I be taking the Utrogestan continuously? Or as my GP has prescribed 1 tablet for 25 days out of 28. This doesn't make sense to me as I am unable to have a breakthrough bleed due to the hysterectomy 🤔

Thanks in advance for reading and any advice received xxx

yes you need to take utrogestan every day. Endo sufferers need continuous combined hrt after hysterectomy unlike others who only need oestrogen once uterus gone. We need combined to give us best chance of endo not reactivating. Unfortunately most doctors - even endo specialists - don’t seem to know that.

Thank you for your reply, this is really helpful, I suspected it should be continuous, as the evorel conti patches were continuous and they were prescribed by my endo specialist. I will get in touch with the specialist to contact my GP to change the prescription

I had a hysterectomy back in September and yes I have to take the utrogestan every day.

My GP was unsure so had to confirm with my endometriosis specialist.

It helps stop the endometriosis growing
