Hip replacement. I suffered a slipped disc in 2008 and again in 2018. I eventually recovered from the 2008 event but I'm still struggling since 2018. I can walk but get occasional stabbing pains in my left buttock along with general discomfort. I struggle to stand up without assistance and I do have a lack of movement in my left hip. I enjoy cycling and can do this with no problem. I've been told I need a hip replacement due to severe arthritis in my left hip. Has anyone had a hip replacement and if so have they been able to walk and cycle again. I was a keen fellwalker sometimes covering up to 14 miles.

Hip replacement?
Hi sorry to hear about your discomforts. I’m 51 and I also have OA in both hips and right knee. I had a total right hip replacement 3 years ago. I had to use a stick to walk any distance just before it and that was after attending physio for 2 years with people thinking I had sciatica. It wasn’t until I had the MRI that they could see it was OA. I was very active before these problems started. . The op was life changing however it can cause further complications as I’m now finding out with nerve pain and in other parts of my body. I have to accept that I’m now limited and need to do exercises to accommodate my health issues. I’ve been learning pain management techniques. I hope you get some solutions.
I used to undertake long distance walking. The last time I did that was in 2017 (Northumberland Coast Path). I was still walking 10 miles plus early in 2018 when I suffered a slipped disc, the second one in 10 years. Although I eventually got over that since then I have found walking any distance painful. It has gradually got worse when any distance is painful. Cycling I can do with hardly any pain or discomfort. I saw a consultant in August 2018 and he told me I had arthritis in my left hip and recommended a hip replacement. I don't doubt him but I'm not sure if that is what is causing me pain and discomfort as it seems to have come on very quickly. I want to make sure it is not sciatica instead.
