Hello, i have recently found out i have endometriosis and my doctor as suggested getting the mirena IUD inserted. Im just wondering if anyone else has had this and what they think of it? if it helps with endo pain, what side effects they experienced, what the insertion or removal was like. thank you all!!

Hi kels001I feel like a stuck record as I always repeat the answer to this question. 🤔 I am not a fan of the coil a few of my friends have had probs too. I do not wish to fill this post with too much negative information as I am sure you will get some positive posts. If there is no other option for you have it fitted with the option of removal if you have any probs. Good Luck 🌹

a mixed review here....

Pros: I like not having the faff of condoms. I dont feel as 'hormonal' as I did on the combined pill. Now the coil has settled I dont notice it

Cons: It was pure hell while it was settling...3 months of non stop bleeding and pain.. came very close to having it removed but got there in the end. I've also not noticed any effect on my endo pain.

I'm glad I've tried it and will continue with it now its in. But Im not sure what I'd do when it needs replacing.... Never had a removal sorry!

Hi. I have tried the mirena coil 4 times over a number of years but unfortunately for me it caused more pain and it doesn’t stop ovulation so I was still in pain each month. It did however stop my periods but this did take 6 months. Before insertion it is recommended you take neurofen about an hour before the appointment it shouldn’t hurt having it put in but you can get some stinging type pain. I always experienced cramping after having it inserted but this settled within 24 hours. Having it removed shouldn’t hurt at all I’ve never felt any of mine being removed. I always say don’t listen to the negative stories just try it for yourself and see how you get on x

It personally gave me more pain episode and really effected my mental health. I had it removed in December after 10 months of trying to wait it settle down. I honestly have never felt better since having it removed. I think it is so individual, you could always try and it and then see how your body responds. If you decided to get it, I recommend strong painkillers before as I found the insertion painful. Hope that helps a little x
