Laparoscopy wounds

Hi everyone,

I recently had my first lap and was changing the dressing for it tonight. When I took the dressing off that was on the belly button wound there was a bit of gunk around it.

I cleaned off the gunk with a cotton bud and had to go into my belly button a little to clean it, but didn’t push into it or touch the actual wound.

Everything was fine then all of a sudden everything went black and I got very nauseous and sweaty but cold and shivery. So I quickly put the new dressing on and sat down. It only lasted about 10 mins then I was okay after again

Has anyone else experienced this? It could be completely unrelated and I’m just being paranoid but just seems weird that it came very suddenly when I was cleaning it out and went not long after I had stopped touching it

Thanks!

How’s it looking now? Be careful it’s not infected, any doubts call 111/A&E. I hope you are on the mend and can enjoy the day 🙂 Merry Christmas

It’s alright thank you, I don’t think it’s infected, just weird that it made me kind of pass out when it got cleaned that’s all.

Thank you! Hope you’ve had a nice Christmas ☺️

Morning Chloeemiliaj

Yes, I had to get my Mum to take one of my dressings off because I went dizzy. I'm 43!! I'm generally not squeamish but occasionally something triggers me and I pass out. Problem is I never know what. Glad you're ok

I had this too! I started to clean away the glue and dried blood and I got a weird hot flash but also felt cold... Had to have a 3 hour nap and quickly put the dressing back on. I'm not squeamish at all but something about that area seems to be a hotspot for weird nerve endings! Hope you're feeling okay now. The post-lap experience is full of surprises, don't fret :)

I changed my dressing this morning, it was also the belly button one and I just got so lightheaded and nauseous. It’s only happened to me once before when I was cleaning a fresh piercing (I’d done this piercing myself which is kinda funny) where I just got lightheaded and knew I was about to faint. My best bet was some orange juice to get my blood sugars back up lol. It might just be the reaction to the feeling and knowing it’s a wound?

Not what you're looking for?
