Endo period pain or a cyst bursting? Sharp stabbing pain paranoia

Hi everyone,

I have been in chronic pain since august (it started of with a bad fever and pain in my lower and upper right abdomen), and it stops me from being able to work, sit up for more than 3 hours or walk more than 5 minutes. I got an ultra sound and got diognosed with a hemorraghic cyst on my right ovary, which my gp said should go away by itself. The pain hasnt gone away and im still on painkillers. I asked around and one of my friends suggested endometriosis. My GP considered it and now thinks it is endo with an endometrioma. (I have all the symtoms inclusing bladder and bowel problems, nerve pain down my leg and lower back pain, sometimes pain during sex, and it all started up slowly since i stopped the pill in march) Im on the waitinglist to be seen by a consultant. In the mean time he keeps saying the regular thing of: when you get a strong stabbing pain go to the hospital cause the cyst might have burst. Now as you can imagine every time i get my peroid my pain is at its worst and i keep getting nervous because how do i know if its just 'normal endo period pain' or the endometrioma bursting? I might be overthinking it, but im nervous im going to be ignoring an internal bleed/big infection just because im so used to having bad pain. Any of you know the feeling? Am i overthinking it? Or is there a way of knowing when it is the cyst bursting?

Thanks so much

Roo

I would love to know what people recommend you do. I am unable to answer as I am quite new to the diagnosis and am trying to work out what to do about my own pain episodes (see my recent post). I hope you get some answers soon x

Just read your post! Hope you get some answers soon. Sounds like its nerve pain down your leg, i read the adhesions can grow around the nerve. For me the pain in my right leg i think is nerve pain, but i had pain in my left leg that was muscle and alinement based and my chiropractor really helped with that! Maybe something that can help you out too 🙂 I hope you can get your gp to speed up the process!

I’m the same. It seems to exacerbate ovulation and period pain massively. I called 111 last month thinking it had burst but he said as the pain eventually subsided and I could walk again that it probably hadn’t!!! I’m on the list for surgery but everything’s cancelled atm due to covid. Total nightmare. Seriously debating if I can save up/ borrow to go private!

Im sorry youre experiencing it too! It is good to hear though, that more people have this problem, as i felt a bit stupid. I went to A&E once while i was on the waitinglist for an ultrasound and waited for 8 hours, it was an absolute nightmare. Like you the pain subsided and when they finally came they didnt listen to me at all, checking me for meningitis and taking a chest xray instead of giving me an ultra sound or even an xray of my abdomen. I have thought about going private too, the waitingtimes are really bad. My family is dutch and they dont understand and keep asking when i get a consultant and its quite stressfull.

Hey!

It’s such a horrible feeling & I have anxiety too so I literally overthink every situation possible, especially when it comes to my health & being in pain. I’ve suffered some of the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life due to endo cyst, to the point of my husband calling an ambulance and me laying on the bathroom floor with morphine being put through my arm. Heat pads are my absolute life saver, I love them & I find they work really well for me. If you really think something isn’t right call 111 they can advise you & get you a call back with a doctor, but as we all know some doctors don’t really understand or care ( in my experience) I’ve recently had surgery for my cysts in September. If you want to chat anymore send me a private message will be happy to help xx
