I’m 25 and 4 weeks post-op. I had the mirena fitted during the operation and experienced normal spotting for a couple of days. No bleeding for a while but now I’m on my 12th day of bleeding non stop! Started as a period then just spotting but still fresh blood coming out. My biggest concern is that there are blood clots coming out every time I go to the toilet (which is often as I’m so paranoid about leaking through my pants).
Has anyone else experienced blood clots with the coil? I know the bleeding is meant to be expected in the first few months after insertion but should I be worried about the clotting?
Thank you!

I had my first Mirena put in about 8 years ago now. The first 3 months were rough, pain was horrendous and I was losing huge clots. But for me after those 12-14 weeks my bleeding trailed off. I haven't had a proper period since, its bliss! I have mine changed every 3 years as my periods start to return after that. Best decision I ever made.I really truly hope yours is the same, but its not brilliant for everyone. My advice would be give it the full 3 months. But of course of your bleeding is worrying you, please get checked out, I did. My Dr said the clots were just were the blood takes longer to pass out so it congealed on the way (sorry for the graphic there!). I have everything crossed for you ❤
I had a Mirena inserted in Jan (9 months post op). First six months were fine, then I started bleeding heavily with clots as you describe. At times, the clots were the size of my palm every half hour or so. After a few months of bleeding, anaemia, and back and forth with the doctor, an ultrasound and MRI revealed not only that my body had ejected the coil (presumably in one of those blood clots) but also that I have a 9cm endometrioma. I know they say it takes 6 months to settle, but if the bleeding is really severe then I would advise getting checked! It is most likely to be nothing given how recently you had it fitted, but better to know if you are worried.
Things seem to have settled a little now and have spoken to my GP who are going to keep an eye on things! Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, hope you are feeling better!
