Mirena coil and HRT, severe Endo

Hi all first post of new year. Was wandering your experiences . On 20th November 2021 I had my ovaries removed and Severe rectal vaginal Endo also treated. During this surgery I had a mirena coil inserted and also HRT patches. I have bleed from day 1 although settled it’s now a brown discharge quite thick. I have an appointment with sexual health clinic ,as anyone had the same treatment.

I am over due a follow up as my surgeon wanted to see me in his Endo clinic.

I have concerns as in 2018 I was hospitalised due to a copper coil and needed intravenous antibiotics. So concerned. I have a dull pain at the moment . Thank you for reading.

Hi, sorry to hear you’re suffering with bowel endo, I feel your pain! Bleeding/spotting following coil insertion is common for up to 6 months - I had similar treatment to you along with other endo resected about 12 years ago (rectum, left oophorectomy, append I’ve told) and I found the mirena to be a great aid for pain relief and management of further endo. Changing mirena 2 yearly helped too, as recommended by my consultant. Recently had hysterectomy but this treatment permitted me to avoid this as long as I possible could.

Good luck and try to persevere, change 2 yearly to get maximum hormone benefit too.

I’m still waiting for a follow up. A 2 year change sounds a good idea, as I previously had a cooper coil fitted in 2016 led to infection in 2018 , which concerns me.

I was on the list originally for a total hysterectomy with my ovaries for over 12 months. I had injections which improved things then came off them and had horrible pain. Some times when going toilet was awful and was told bowel pain was nothing to do with, I decided to pay for an Endo specialist and he was fantastic popped me on to his list for a repeat look, my first diagnosis stage 2 and he found severe recto vaginal and treated it. Nothing on my uterus so fingers crossed

Apart from the coil I have HRT. Did you have further pain after 2 years , as I have the Mirena for the endo. I’m also going to be 42 on Thursday so it may be my age would be another consideration. I have an appointment with sexual health next week and I am unsure when my follow up will be.

My pain didn’t recur until around 7 years after the the resection surgery, so I had good relief and hardly any bleeding once coils (following insertion 2 yearly) settled. I had hysterectomy 2 weeks ago, due to constant bleeding for 2.5 years and trying medical menopause (injections) which didn’t stop it at all! Sadly I’m finding the oestrogen HRT is causing my endo bowel pain, despite surgeon saying he’d resected it and freed rectum up as it was stuck down. I’m going it’s a blip and it will settle don’t fancy all the issues associated with menopause😫 I’ll be 50 this year, and I’ve had endo since I was 15.

Hello 👋🏻 I have had Mirena’s in 2006/7-2021 and this discharge is quite normal.

I was worried at first too and my body produced various colours and textures but this is what Endo periods can be like. For me, before the coil, I had all sorts of wonderful colours and textures coming from my body.

I have contacted the doctor and will persevere with the coil for now. Will get it checked next week. Thank you all for your replies . Endo is such a mine field .
