Laparoscopy wound has opened

Hi ladies, I hope you are all well. I am 2 weeks post laparoscopy and this is my third laparoscopy (last was in 2017). My incisions/wounds don't seem to be healing as well as I remember last time and it's stressing me out.

None of the dissolvable stitches have dissolved, so my incisions are red, hard & bumpy as the skin is growing around the stitches. My belly button incision seems to look like an 'open' wound (red, weepy) and last night my cat stepped over my lower incision which has now gaped open (not bleeding/weeping but feels like it's on fire).

I have gone to the GP who keep fobbing me off saying it's normal and not infected, etc . I am reluctant to go to A&E because if the GP is saying nothing is wrong, I feel like I am wasting the NHS' time. Ugh. Just feeling a bit fed up and lost on what to do now. Should I just wait it out for a bit longer? I've currently covered up the lower incision + belly button :-S

Did GP actually see you or over the phone?

Hi Moon_maiden, I was seen by the nurse. But I went back again today and asked for a swab because I’m convinced I have an infection. I should get results back by Wed, let’s see what they say.

🤞 it isn’t, I’m surprised they didn’t give you antibiotics just in case.Let us know how you get on.

How are you feeling generally today?

I’m generally okay but have definitely noticed how much longer recovery is this time round. I also got a call back from my GP that I definitely do have an infection, so on antibiotics! Hopefully this is it and no more issues 🤞🏽

That’s great you got it sorted 🙂I asked for some pre op as a just in case. I knew I wouldn’t be able to drive so stocked up.

🤞 you’ll feel better soon

Hi.I will be 3 weeks post laparoscopy tomorrow and although my incisions aren't open, my stitches also haven't dissolved yet and they look scabby and as though the skin in healing around them.

My belly button looks like a jigsaw with the amount of stitches!

I was told that it takes 4-6 weeks for your stitches to dissolve. They left the tied ends pretty long for me, so I trimmed them with some scissors to hopefully aid the dissolving.

I did the 111 online test during my first week post lap due to concerns and they sent me to my local walk in centre with an appointment. Honestly don't be afraid to give someone a call if you have concerns.

Hopw you're ok!

Hi, I just had my stitches removed today, 4 weeks after my laparoscopy as they did not dissolve, after knowing myself something wasn't quite right. My nurse was surprised the consultant didn't check the wounds at my review appointment.

If you feel something isn't right, I would definitely get someone to have a look. Hope it settles down for you soon.

Hi Kerrykeg and RR2020 - Thanks both for your responses. I pushed my GP to swab one of the incisions and low and behold, I have an infection. I’m now on antibiotics - hopefully no more issues 🤞🏽
