Period bleeding is when you have a normal cycle and the endometrium builds and thickens in readiness for a pregnancy and then dies and falls away as blood in a period when pregnancy doesn't occur. On the combined pill you will only have a bleed if you take them for 21 days then have a break. The hormones are lower on the pill than they would be naturally so the endometrium will be thinner so there will be less of a bleed called 'withdrawal bleed' named due to the hormones in the pill being withdrawn. The amount of blood depends on the dose of the pill - some are higher than others. Low-dose forms of birth control are recommended by doctors because they carry the lowest risk of blood clotting, heart attack, stroke, and other serious side effects. Hope that helps. x
