Hi
So I’m thinking of joining bupa as I’m sick of being in constant pain on tramadol and waiting for gyny. I just want to get back to work. Has anyone gone private? Do they cover laparoscopy and surgery including hysterectomys? Many thanks

Buy a pen and notebook. Going private is a good idea but carefully vet the specialist first.
Hi,
You might find it difficult to access private health insurance if you have already began investigations through nhs. I had been seeing my GP in relation to pelvic pain initially and then tried to get private insurance and was told that it was now classed as a pre-existing condition and they wouldn’t cover Laps etc
As this is an ongoing issue you don’t be able to start private health insurance to sort it out. But what you can do is see a private Gynaecologist and just pay for the consultations etc. I’ve just done this with a urologist and pelvic physio.
Some BUPA schemes cover existing illness, the one I had through work did. But it might be a policy specific thing so you could call and ask if they can cover you?
Thanks I’m going to call them tomorrow xx
I had the same thoughts but they didn’t cover me as pre existing condition. I was really lucky to get an nhs referral to a local private hospital due to long waiting times at the other local nhs hospitals
I went private for my lap. It was ~£2000 but was scheduled instantly. I was a bit surprised that I also had to pay for the follow-up consultation (about £175).
