I’ve finally got a date for my laparoscopy Fri 25th Sept which I’m really happy about but just got a couple of questions..
When I discussed with the consultant back in May he has allowed 2 hrs is that for the surgery itself or surgery and recovery?
Also I’m so scared that when I come round he says he hasn’t found anything
I’m only going in for the day, I’m afternoon surgery as got to be there at 11am so for people who’ve had afternoon can you still come out same day.
Lastly, I’ve had a few operations now and I still get really nervous as I suffer with MH so what do you do while you are waiting as with COVID none is allowed in with you

Hi, It will depend on what they can find, or not find, but usually the surgery takes around an hour (I had stage 3-4 and it took just under an hour, even then they couldn’t do what they wanted Cos it was more severe than thought) and another hour in recovery where they monitor you before sending you back to your room/ ward.
I had a 12:30pm lap and came back to my room around 2:30, however as I was still drowsy and wasn’t fully awake yet by 4:30 they did not want to discharge me, and the latest was 5pm so I had to stay overnight. Luckily I went in with my blanket and some basic essentials (and it helped I was at a private hospital so got given a dressing gown). I would advise to bring with you some essential items just incase. Hopefully it will go well, all the best dear x
So glad you've got your date for op I hope all goes well for you. 2 hrs would prob be surgery time recovery takes as long as it takes everyone reacts differently to op an meds.
The 2 laps I had I wasn't aloud anyone one with me while waiting to go down so I just took a book to read.
Both times I went down in the afternoon....first time I was home by 8pm but second time they kept me in over night. I would take a few basic things with you....light dressing gown and slippers body wipes and deodorant bottle water and something to nibble when you come round from op. Hospital do provide food an drinks but its nice to have a few of your own things to hand.
Thank you - yes my partner says I may not be well enough to come out the same day... I read last night you got to stop eating after 7am and can drink until 11am!!!
I don’t drink much but you always know when you can’t you want to..
Yeah I just phoned them and they said if my parents come in they would have to self isolate too and I don’t think they’ll be too keen on that?
2hours probably op time, you will be monitored in the recovery room, (we are all different for actual recovery time) then back to the ward, they usually wish you to pass urine before sending you home. Suggest you take a book or something to listen too that would raise your spirits. Plus water and nibbles as suggested by plotments Good luck🍀🍀
I had my laproscopy yesterday. I went down just after 10.20 and was back onto the ward about 1.15 then went home at 4.30. It took longer than they thought as had extensive endo removed and cyst ovary. Had a hysterectomy as well as they were going to remove fibroid but couldn't as its too muscular and in the womb wall. I payed private as been waiting so long and got fobbed off nhs but they were lovely and everyone was reassuring. I'm sore today but honestly when I'm still its no different than a bad endo day beforehand. Just been making sure I get up and walk about regularly and then resting with my feet up. I had a tv in my room but just chatted to my mum on the phone while I waited and read my book time soon went. Good luck im sure it will be fine. It certainly is a weird situation that we all worry nothing is there and it was a relief to be told it was worse than they thought so I feel justified in my moaning i was in pain!
