I had a video call with my gynaecologist today because I feel like I’m not getting on with the Mirena.
I am spotting a bit, pain in lower stomach and back and just feeling very emotional! He suggested I need to give it 6 months as it takes a while to settle. I’m currently on month 4 of having it in
Has anyone experienced initial symptoms and it then settled or should I just accept it’s not good and have it removed? Struggling as it’s one of the last few treatment options 😭

I am sure you will get mixed replies about the Mirena from us ladies on this site. My reply is, you know your own body and if it is telling you it's not comfortable with the coil go back to your GP and tell him you are not happy and ask for an alternative. Sorry to hear you are still in pain and wish you well🙏
I really struggled with the Mirena, made bleeding and pain worse, and my hormones were all over the place. I took norethisterone to help regulate my period, after about 9 months of using this my bleeding was under control. Pain is still a struggle but I found experimenting with different medications, although that I’m itself wasn’t a pleasant experience, it helped with finding something that worked for me.
I stuck out the symptoms to keep the coil but it has been tough. Honestly, you need to do whatever is best for you. I didn’t find my GP surgery very good at advising me so I requested a referral to an endometriosis specialise clinic in Surrey so I could talk to someone who knew what they were talking about. You can ask to be referred anywhere, I found it really helpful and am now about to have another surgery to help with the symptoms.
It’s your body I don’t agree that you should take coil along with loads of other pain killers that means the coil isn’t working it’s supposed to suppress endo therefore less pain and no period if your in pain and bleeding I wouldn’t say it’s working for you x
Mine took about 6 months. However, I did notice a gradual drop of pain month by month .. . so that by / after 6 months there was no pain at all. However, my Endo was possibly not as bad as many find it, even though I had it all my life... For example, it would fade to almost nothing when I was on the pill, just that my GP didn't want me on the pill after 50, so the coil was next and it worked wonders for me.
Hi I got the marina coil a few years back to see if it would help with bleeding, pain and acne the first 6 + months was horrendous. For the first few months I was going into work 5/6 days a week with my hot water bottle 🤣 I worked with a small group of people away from everyone else so not many people noticed.m 😂 along with naproxen. It hasn’t helped any of the areas I got it for apart from to prevent pregnancy which I’m not 100% if that even works as I’m in constant agony and doing the business with my partner can hurt a lot and or cause bleeding.
