Cerelle progesterone bleeding

Hi everyone,

I got diagnosed with endometriosis in September 2019 and since then have been working my way through a list of medications. I started with non-hormonal like mefanamic acid and transexamic acid but these did nothing for my pain.

I'd had bad experiences with the pill when I was younger so was reluctant to go back on it but after speaking to a lovely doctor for 45 minutes (phone appt due to COVID) we decided trying progesterone pill (brand name Cerelle) was the next thing to try. I have been on it for 42 days now and have been bleeding for the last 12 of these. I have also gained weight and my boobs have grown rapidly and are so tender to touch. They hurt when I run or try to exercise.

Does anyone have a similar experience? I have another phone appt on Sunday and just wanted to be armed with some knowledge if possible as due to the bleeding combined with the side effects I don't want them to try and put me on a higher dose (it was mentioned in my last appt that I could 'double up' on the pill) or switch me to a different pill.

How did people find what works for them?

Many thanks!

Anna

Hi,

I started on cerazette in march this year which has the same ingredient as cerelle. I was bleeding for 2 months straight with no let up...I was told to double the pill and the next day I stopped bleeding! I've been switched to cerelle now (price difference I think!) And I've not had a period still, I have noticed that my breasts are incredibly painful and itchy since switching to cerelle though. This is a short term contraception solution for me until they accept patients for the coil again. Doubling did the trick for me so fingers crossed for you!

Hi there! I was out on Cerelle 4 years ago after my last endo surgery and stayed on it as it did keep everything ‘calm’. I would suggest sticking with it for a few more months. I had similar side effects but by the 3rd month (or so...awhile ago now) bleeding stopped, no ‘pms’ symptoms and kept the endo at bay up until recently. So I’d say 3 and a bit years it did the job. 👍
