Provera - positive stories please :)

Hi

Looking for some positivity! After 3 years of awful endo pain, and trialling the depo injection (to no avail - pain settled by 70% which is amazing but just made me bleed constantly), my consultant has started me on provera (1 tablet, 3 times a day, indefinitely) this week and mentioned adding me to a laparoscopy waiting list once all the covid stuff has settled!

My questions are:

- there are lots of people on here saying it didnt work for them, but has anyone had any positive experiences from it?

- can it be used alone as a contraceptive? I have an implant due out in August (+/- a few months due to covid!!!)

- if/when I am ready to try for children (approx 2-3 years), I have heard that it wears off quite quick when you stop taking it so periods should return *somewhat* quickly? I am not in a position to try for children right now (as have had many people tell me to try sooner rather than later).

- if this does not work, what is my consultant most probably going to suggest next?

I would be grateful for any positivity anyone can give me right now ha! xxx

Hi. I had a positive experience with the provera tablets, 1 three times a day, after a number of years trying all sorts of different medications for endo none of which worked. I think Provera was one of my consultants last options left to try! I can’t begin to explain the difference it made, I did already have the mirena coil fitted and so the provera worked alongside it, I was on the provera for 2 years and gradually reduced the dose until stopping completely and the coil took over by itself. I did have regular periods return quite quickly afterwards. With that combination I had a good 4 years with a couple of days of pain each month. My pain has since come back and having had a laparoscopy in November, my endo has worsened to stage 3 and I’m now waiting for excision surgery. Have you tried the mirena coil? There is definitely a mixed opinion as to whether it suits your body or not but I have to say once mine settled down it was absolutely fine, I’ve had two across 8 years now. Hope this helps you xx

Provera tabs were given to me after my 1st Lap was on them for two years they worked for me such relief from bleeding and pain. Had to return to Gynae for 2 more Laps over the years, he did ask if I wanted a hysterectomy but I said no.
