Anyone use amitriptyline for endo pain?

I've seen mention of amitriptyline used for endo pain on here. Can anyone tell me their experiences with this? I'm at a point where my medication isn't working well enough and am looking for other options. If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know too! I'm currently taking 60mg codeine every 4 hours and mefenamic acid 3 times a day.

Hi after my hysterectomy November 2018 I suffer from nerve pain in my left hip/groin area, I take amitriptyline at night, to stop the nerve pinging, it helps me to sleep as I can't sleep on my left side anymore. I believe other ladies use amitriptyline during the day as well as it is a nerve blocker. I hope this helps. X

Hi

I use amitriptyline for mood swings and for pain to sleep at night. I'm currently on prostap.

Before prostap, I use to take codyranamol, which works as a relaxant too. But felt like a zombie, as well as being nauseous, however it worked, I did sleep alot if I took a higher dose or for everyday pain i took one along side ibuprofen and transamiex acid when on periods.

When the pain was unbearable, I use to take tramadol.

Maybe worth asking your doctor to change your meds, to find something else. x

I use it to help me sleep at night, as I've always been a really bad sleeper - and it got much worse during my (really dreadful) menopause. People who take it for specific pain relief - eg for fibromyalgia - are told to take quite large doses, with apparently few/no side effects. However, I only receive 10mg tablets, and was told to split them up into as small as was necessary to help me sleep, so for a year or two during the menopause I was generally taking about 1/4 to 1/3 of a tablet, most nights.

However, when I became quite ill with a bad bout of costochondritis (inflammation of the cartilage parts of the ribcage - I'd been doing some heavy lifting and must have pulled something) I was told to up the dose to help the pain, and was sometimes taking 2 a day - it was a brief period, but I had no negative side effects from the tablets.

I still take them, as sleep seems to become worse as I get older, and I vary the dose, but I've never found them troubling, or responsible for making me dozy, and still only take less than one 10mg tablet. I would say they are worth a try.

Thanks so much for your help, everyone! I'll keep it in mind. From the sound of it, I might be better off with a different type of painkiller because I'm usually okay at sleeping if the pain's been numbed enough for me to drift off initially. I've luckily only had a few nights recently where my sleep's been disturbed too much. Hope you're all doing well and getting the care you need during this weird time!
