I have been on Amitriptyline for a month now. My GP gave it to me to try to see if it helps the pain. I am on 10mg a day but haven't seen any difference in my pain.

Anyone else been on amitriptyline before and had the same effect?

I haven't had any that I have noticed, but it hasn't helped my pain at all. still have pain during the day and when trying to sleep, it doesn't wake me up as often. Other than a bit of nausea and constipation, which I had before, no side effects.

I have it but not for my endo - I have back problems and it is a muscle relaxant - I use it on a night . Dh calls it my knock out pill as it sends me to sleep - I would never use it during the day.

Im on amitriptyline for neuralgia in my face 10mg is the low dose they will start you off with just got back to your gp and they will up it, I think you can go up to 70mg for pain, 10mg is normally for children who wet the bed..x

My 14 year old daughter has been on it for 'suspected endo' - had severe pain since last November (initially thought appendix, but finally linking to Endo) . She was prescribed it in January and I am concerned that she has been taking it so long - is now up to 40mgs a day (also told you can go up to 70) - especially as even at 40mgs it doesn't ease the pain and she is so tearful and depressed. She is also taking Microgynon, Ibuprofen and Tranexamic acid. She has a gynae appointment on Thurs and we are going to ask if there is an alternative.

Im on 50mg amitriptyline and find it great for pain...was started on 10mg n had it upped to 25mg and then 50mg over a four week period.....wasnt very hopeful as it was doing nothing for the pain but the higher dose has really helped.....had no side effects except it relieved the nerve pain....sciatic nerve playing up due to stage 4 endo and it helped me sleep....would definitely go back to your doctor and get the dose highered.....hope it works for you...best of luck x

I've just been prescribed 25mg amitriptyline which i'm reluctant to take as I've also been prescribed morphine for during the day when I have a "bad day" which seems to be more often than ever. My GP did say that amitriptyline is what she calls a marmite drug though so you'll either love it or hate it, and that it can also take a month or so to take effect. Maybe just give them a go and see how you get on? Best of luck! x

I was prescribed amitriptyline a month ago, again same 10mg. But my GP did say if every 5 nights it didn't seem to work/help with pain, up the dose by taking another pill. Maximum is taking 3 of the 10mg I think she said? I found that taking one didn't really help, but taking 2/3 helps...but when I've taken 2/3 per night I feel the next day is a huuuuge struggle. I genuinely feel as though I could sleep at least 20hrs a day! :/

Hi

I tried Amitriptyline, I went up to 125mg a night. It didn't really help the pain and the side effects were dreadful by 8pm I couldn't move if I am honest the whole time I was on that dose is a blur to me. I have never experienced tiredness like it . My hubby was so concerned , he opened my eyes to it I was living like a drug addict . I also suffered from constant pins and needles in my hands.

I appreciate every one is different but the side effects of this drug are pretty awful.

Hope you find something that works for you xxxx
