Bit of background- I have been living with what seems to be endo for around 7 years without doctors being able to help me. It was only after hearing about it on BBC last year that I thought I should ask my doctor to refer me to Gyno to see if I might have endo.
I had my appointment at the hospital (the Royal Free) the other week, and the specialist didn't say whether she thought I had it or not, but said if I was worried I could have a Laparoscopy but it would be an 8 month wait. So I'm making the decision to go private - I feel like I can't wait any longer as my symptoms are getting worse.
I wanted to know if anyone can help me by recommending any specialists in London as I'm having a difficult time looking for the right person. When I search in the hospital I was at, there only seems to be one person who says one of their interests is 'pelvic endometriosis' and I'm not sure if that's the same as endometrisis.
I've been told not to just see a regular gyno as they don't always know what to look for- so I would really appreciate any suggestions if anyone has any!
Also- I don't know if anyone else has had a similar experience where they're in the stage of nobody really giving their medical opinion about what might be wrong? I'm not sure how to find out without having a Laparoscopy..
Thank you

So sorry I'm advance in going to bombard you with info.
Most of the time the only way to diagnose endometriosis is through surgery (laparoscopy). This is because there isn't a blood test or anything like that, that can confirm endo. Imaging can sometimes show it but just because imaging is clear doesn't mean it's not endo.
The the UK the only gynaecologist you should be seeing are those who at a minimum list endometriosis as a specialist interest (pelvic endometriosis is the same, endometriosis usually occurs here and in rarer cases it can end up else where). The best thing is to search your local hospitals and check their specialist interests.
There is also a list of BSGE centres (Google should get you there) . But on the NHS these only deal with stage 3 or 4. This just relates to the extent of the endo such as how much there is and how deep it goes and if its on the bowels or somethin . Some of these may also do private. But private laps can get costly as it is essentially exploratory surgery as they don't know what they'll find and come across. So be sure to be clear on what's included and what's not.
Also with finding a surgeon a good thing is to look up reviews, you may find some on here. But there's also UK specific groups on places like Facebook that you can check out other people's thoughts on the surgeon.
hi! I just attended London Bridge Hospital. You could see him for an initial private consultation then take it from there? He also has an nhs clinic I think. I have insurance through work so I saw him for a consultation they then booked my lap in one month later.
He is very good, caring and sympathetic. The HCA endo Center where he works is BSGE accredited.
Please shout if you have any questions and good luck
Thanks for your answer- I looked on the BSGE website and found Guys and Thomas hosp, I booked a consultation with her as it says she specialises in endo. I'm hoping I can get some answers. Thanks again
Yes I think I have him (Bidmead) for my Nhs Lap next month... via my local gp and then through kings c hospital which is BGSE.
I’ve been waiting since July last year so they were right with the 8/9months...
I was told last jan 2019 I could have an laparoscopy but also told at the same time the amount of scarring/complications could be worse then not knowing if I have Endo.
So I had a think for a few months/more severe pains, went back through the docs and last July was offered a ‘if I want it’ a lap.
15 years of pain and problems and always feeling somethings up.. so I’m hoping the lap will help physically and mentally! Or at least give me some answers.
Thanks for your reply. I book a consultation with consultant who I found on the BCSE website at Guy's and Thomas Hosp. It says she specialises in endometriosis, so fingers crossed..
Good luck with yours as well, I know how hard it is just not knowing what's going on with your health, it's been that way for me too. Hope you get answers.
Hi not sure if you found one in the end. I went with Homerton hospital, Endometriosis centre. Within 3months I had surgery. My surgeon was amazing, he even done a tidy stitch on me shivh healed well within week 2 I was on my feet, stitches healed the lot. Fantastic by far compared to my gynae specialist.
