Hi guys, I've got a chocolate cyst and got an MRI tomorrow to investigate further (I was diagnosed with stage IV endo a few years ago and have already had 3 surgeries to far).
I'm really struggling with the pain in my right side from the cyst, it is pretty much constant and I haven't had a decent night's sleep for atleast 2 weeks.
I am on naproxen and amitriptyline (10mg) and had to go to A&E yesterday due to pain. They have given me some co-codamel but it's not really doing anything.
Thinking about going to doctors tomorrow after my MRI to discuss pain relief and possibly to be signed off work for a couple of weeks until the pain is under control.
Any tips on what pain relief you have found useful?

I was initially put into the urgent 3 month list due to my symptoms but 9 months later still waited. It was my GP who referred me to gynae and the consultant said upon looking at my cyst and symptoms i need a laparoscopy. I ended up going private for my op x
Hope your pain eases quickly. I've been diagnosed with stage 4 severe endo, I had a laparoscopy in November and they found a chocolate cyst. I was in excruciating pain since january last year until my op in November. I took Co codamol, codein, ibuprofen for pain relief, it seemed to work for a short period and then it didn't. It just used to take the edge off the pain for a few houra and then the pain kicked in again. I never slept for days as the pain used to get worse at night time. My hot water bottle was a god send though, I could not live without that maybe try that along with stronger codeine, but I'm sure you can only take codeine for a certain period of time.
Tell your GP also and he will probs prescribe something stronger.
I had a chocolate cyst last summer, the pain got so bad I was off work for 4 weeks. Only pain relief that worked for me was tramadol, it also made me drowsy so I was able to sleep a little better. Oh and my hot water bottle! That didn’t leave me side! Hope you find something that gives you some relief, I think taking some time off work sounds like a good idea too, if you can. Take care, sending hugs xx
No I didn’t. It was monitored for a while but it ruptured (which was very painful and I was admitted to hospital) but after that the pain began to ease. I should add that I was about 3 months into Zoladex treatment when the cyst appeared x
I can understand your situation very well. I also had excruciating pain due to chocolate cyst (7 cm) and stage IV endo. Before that, I had one leproscopy as well for chocolate cyst but it reoccurred. I tried every pain killer and injections but all in vain. After extensive research on internet, I found one Homeopathic clinic in India, i.e. Welling Homeopathic. It may sound bizarre but my pain was almost gone within 1 week after starting their medicines. The intensity of the pain was reduced after taking 3-4 doses. Although I don't have any pain now but the cyst is still there and I was told that eventually, this will also go away. They will suggest you some yoga poses and diet plans. Here I am posting the link of clinic wellinghomeopathy.com/
They give online consultation also. I am taking online consulatation as I don't live in India.
How long have you had your 7cm cyst are you post meanapausal or not .. I've had mine diagnosed 18 months ago no idea how long it's been there I am post meanapause mine is 6 x 5 x 4cm
The cyst was diagnosed in January 2019. During that time, I was on pills (low dose) to manage endo. I had one surgery in April 2016 for chocolate cyst and adhesions, and after that, I was on Zoladex for three continuous months following six months periods on and off treatment. Even though I was taking treatment the cyst reoccured again and this time the pain was unbearable throughout the month. My gynecologist suggested to have injection of Zoladex but this time I was afraid because of the side effects I faced last time. During that time I searched for alternative treatment and found Welling Homeo. I am not promoting, I am just telling how I because pain free. Now and then I have little bit pain but It is nothing compared to what I used to have. I am still on the homeo medicines. I need to get done my TVS to check the current size of cyst. It was 7 cm when I got done TVS in August 2019.
He difference with me is I am.poat meanapausal and had this cyst for over 12 years I've just been told by oncologist gynecologist .. he won't operate unless I loose weight first x
I have stage 4 endo and large bilateral endometriomas. When my pain is severe the only thing that helps is morphine. At other times I use heat, rest and dihydrocodeine.
I can understand what you are going through as I have 2 cyst on my left ovary and was diagnosed with endometriosis last May. I am due to have surgery in two week after waiting almost a year.
The things that help me relieve my pain is:
- Hot water bottle
- Meditation for pain
- vicks vapour rub
- Yoga
- Pilates
- Change in diet (E.g. More fruit and mostly green vegetables.)
- Cut out red meat because they contain a lot of hormones
- Eat more fish to balance the hormones in the body
- Drink lactose free milk as it's more healthy (contains B12) and it will make you feel less bloated.
- Hot baths/showers will help relax the stomach muscles
So doctor has signed me off work for 2 weeks to try and get pain under control and has now prescribed me Nefopan...never heard of this before tbh and not much online. Anyone else had this?
