Coping at work with endo

How do people cope at work with endometriosis? I have a large ovary cyst and have been waiting for surgery now for 6 months. I am constantly tired and calling in sick as i can’t move from my bed. I’m scared of loosing my job. I help manage a restaurant and it’s such a physically demanding job. I’ve given in to having the gnrh (decapeptyl) injection beginning of the week. I now have sharp pains when I need to urinate, feel hot then cold, and have awful cramps. I have been signed off work for a total of 7 or 8 weeks since November 2019.

If anyone has any tips I would really appreciate it. I just want to go back to feeling like me again

ahh that's awful for you. maybe the injections are causing other symptoms. a lot of my friends have had them. ive had endo and adenomyosis for nearly 30years now and sometimes the big cysts burst and that's also painful. Im a healthcare worker (Nurse) and also work long hours as long as you keep your bosses informed of your condition and you keep all of your sick note certificates they will have to be more understanding. I reduced my hours slowly and this has helped a lot. I take regular mefenamic acid tablets before a major flare up and stick a heat pad on whilst at work. use your days off to really relax and improve your mental well being.

good luck hun. xxxx

I struggle to work consistently without having days off. I probably have around 3 days off per month due to my endometriosis. Similarly to you, I’m just so physically and mentally exhausted that I can’t get out of bed. But then I spend all day worrying that they’re going to get rid of me rather than focussing in looking after myself. As Greenlady said, as long as you have told them about your illness and have provided them with sick notes when necessary then they can’t really do much. It would be discriminatory to take disciplinary action due to a genuine illness. I feel your worry though. I feel so guilty when I can’t go in that sometimes I wonder if it makes me feel worse. Try to remember that your health comes first and is more important than a job and money and not to worry about what other people think. X

So sorry you feel this way I was off for 5 month I got give progesterone pill but it made me worse I have now reduced my hours I know not everyone can but it’s better for me and I work on quiet days I’m in retail.i only use diet now and paracetamol I try to practice mindfulness but can be hard some days.maybe you could talk to work about hours or use heat packs when working the ones you stick on I’ve heard help sometimes in the past I’ve really been in agony that a 3 hour shift has been difficult it really depends on the day
