Can endo cause sciatica?

Friday night I posted about whether I was genuinely unwell or if it was endo. Anyways turns out I had gastroenteritis and ended up having to go to hospital as I was dehydrated and had the WORST pain in my lower back, hips and down into my legs all the way to my toes. I just saw a general A&E doctor as our local hospital has just merged with another trust and all gynae doctors are based at the other hospital. Anyways the doctor in A&E said the pain I was experiencing was sciatica. I asked if this was because of my endo and he shot me down straight away and said the two are not linked whatsoever. But I am not convinced. I see my consultant in a couple weeks so will mention it to him to see what he says but just wanted your opinions

Hi I asked this same question on here a few months ago as I also had never had sciatica until then. I think there is a link between them both. I was given some excercise s to do that really helped x

I was rolling round my bed with the pain it was that bad. So frustrating when doctors with little/no knowledge in endo just completely chuck your illness to one side!!!

I was same when it started it put me in bed and I ended up hobbling on one leg then a pattern started I was getting it every month!and couldn’t explain it till I researched it for hours and how to treat it it’s when the endo lesions sit on your nerves I use heat rub and it helps a bit x

I’m the same! I was just given simple yoga exercises to do but I’m sure you guys can appreciate it’s not the first thing on your mind when you’re experiencing the pain. Never had these symptoms before my Endo started getting really bad/worsening

I had similar symptoms and found both amitriptyline, physeo, exercises and a leg splint for night really valuable.

I've been fobbed off when I asked whether the 2 could be related ..

My physiotherapist said it could well be.

Also my excruciating episodes of sciatica have always started with my periods.

And I sometimes can feel a shooting pain traveling from my ovaries or womb to my tights

There is not much written on this topic. I've read on the Lancet that some cases of endometriosis were found in the spine but this was anecdotal. Now , even though there is no link found I know in my gut that the 2 are related
