How do you get under the care of a specialist for endo / adeno ??

Hi ladies, I was just wondering how people here ended up with a specialist in the field... i'm a few years into endo and now been diagnosed with adenomyosis. So far, I've only ever been referred to regular gynaecologists, just curious to hear about others who were treated by endo specialists and how they got there. Thanks!

Hi Ta2018, I was actually referred after I was hospitalised for ruptured cysts. Whilst at the hospital, I was asked a bunch of questions that led the team to believe it could be endo and then I was referred to an endo specialist for subsequent laparoscopy. In my scenario I was quite lucky, I suppose, to have been diagnosed so quickly (even though I had never even heard of endo or adeno - both of which I have). I have read some really awful stories online about women who have waited absolutely years to get diagnosed and get the correct treatment. I would probably start with going to your GP to be referred and specifically ask to be referred to a particular consultant (which you are allowed to do). You can find an accredited Endo centre near you by visiting the BSGE website. Best of luck xx

Hello

So in the UK, you should only be seen by atleast a gyneacologist with a specialist interest in endometriosis. To be seen by the bsge (specialist) centres you need to have stage 3 or 4 endometriosis.

If your in the UK but have only been seen by a general gyneacologist not one who has an interest in endo then if you are currently under a gynecologist check their specialisms, if it's not endo contact either the bookings team or PALs, and explain that it is a requirement to be seen by an endo specialist if you are suspected or have confirmed endo. If you are trying to get a referral to a gynaecologist from your GP, explain the requirement and ask them to ensure they write on the referral request that it is endo and the booking team should ensure its with the correct person.

Hi there

My gynea did a laporoscopy and found the endimetriosis that I told him I had in the first place!! After that I simply went online and searched for a endo specialist in my area and then researched him. Once I was happy that he didn't have any bad reviews, etc I called and made an appointment.

This is my worry they want me to have diagnosis lap I know I’ve got it so I’ve booked to see a specialist by myself and waiting to see if he can confirm it he’s doing a scan I don’t want them to just open me up I keep telling them it’s not getting through

I would also just go straight to the specialist. The gynea can't fix it if he finds endo.

My specialist saw the endo on the scans he did. I would imagine if you told him your symptoms, etc he would book the operation as an diagnostic lap, but if he finds it and can fix it while he's busy he'll do it.

They have said they can treat my endo but he’s just a general gynaecologist and booked me for diagnostic lap and said he would treat it he hasent booked me in with a specialist.did you have diagnostic and treatment or just diagnostic with a general gynaecologist

My general gynea found with a lap it after I basically said I couldn't take the pain anymore, I think he just did it to shut me up. Then after I woke up he said oh, it's too bad I can't fix it. Then it took almost a year before I could get a specialist to help me. It depends what type of training the gynea had and the severeness of it. He won't know until he actually gets in there with the camera.

I hope I don't sound too gross, but I also knew it was bad because I could feel stuff pulling when I had to push. Intercourse was painful, extremely painful menstruation, weeks of bleeding, it was just terrible. Remember, it's your body and you should follow your gut feelings.
