Questions about what happens after hysterectomy & unilateral ovary removal

Hi,

Just trying to get my head round my options.

I’m due to have an op to remove the endo on my bowel & will probably have a hysterectomy (due to adenomysis) and one ovary removed.

I said that I’d prefer to keep my right ovary (which is healthy apparently) as I thought if I do that I might be able to avoid taking HRT.

Was anyone in the same position? And how was life for you afterwards? Do you still get PMS even if there’s no period? Thanks

I kept one of my ovaries for 6 years after the hysterectomy and I believe I still got PMS. There was definitely a pattern to my moods! But it was 100% better having the hysterectomy. I ended up losing the other one recently as the endo came back but I would definitely recommend keeping one as long as possible because this surgical menopause is no fun either! Thank you! Sorry to hear that the endo has came back. I think I’d rather do the same and hang on to one if I can and delay the HRT.

Was the PMS as bad or slightly better with one?
