Hysterectomy cervix removal

I am due to have a hysterectomy on Friday, having my right ovary removed, the left one and fallopian tube was taken out in 2013 due complications with my endometriosis. I was due to have my hysterectomy on 2nd of January, but was cancelled due to an emergency coming in, anyway I digress! Before it was cancelled I saw my consultant to fill in the consent for etc and he asked if I wanted my cervix removed or not(first time this was mentioned, give me a bit of thinking time!?! So maybe it was good that it was postponed) So I've had two weeks to weigh up the pros and cons of having it removed, but can't find much info. Anyone able to enlightened me on their experiences of keeping it or having it removed?

I was told by consultant that having you cervix removed can effect your sex drive so he prefers to leave if possible. He also said that there is a risk it will prolapse at some point and need removing but that could be soon or in ten years no way of knowing.

Sorry I can't be of any more help. Hope everything goes well. I'm going back in August to see about hysterectomy so would be interested in how it goes.

Hi I had a vaginal hysterectomy in November 2007 and wasn't aware at the time of surgery that she was going to remove my cervix as well and the first I knew if it was when my gp's sent me a letter 6 months later saying I didn't need a smear anymore as I no longer had a cervix.... 7 and a bit years on I have no sex drive what so ever and I'm currently waiting for prolapse repair surgery as everything's collapsed down there and I'm only 36! Not sure if its all connected to the cervix removal but can't help feeling like I would've liked to be consulted before they did it!! I know this probably doesn't help you much but thought I'd share....good luck with your surgery and whatever you decide to do xx
