I have been on prostap for 6 years, has anyone else been on it for years, and if so any long term bad effects.
Prostap long term: I have been on prostap... - Endometriosis UK
Prostap long term
Hello. Why have you been on it so long - it is only meant to be taken once for 6 months?
It's the only thing that works to take away the pain for me, so my consultant has approved it for another 3 years.
I just wondered if anyone else has been taking it so long.
And you are on hrt?
Yes I am.
Presumably you have thorough excision(s) in a tertiary endo centre without relief so isn't a hysterectomy being considered rather than taking these medications against NICE guidelines as the potential long term effects are just not known.
They won't do a hysterectomy because I'm now 48 so should go through the menopause in a few years myself . I don't go to an endo centre just a regular gyno consultant I live on a island so don't have any specialists available.
Menopause doesn't cure endo unfortunately and you must be given access to an endo centre wherever you are in the UK if there is evidence of severe disease or your symptoms are unmanageable which yours seem to be without the injections. You are being treated against guidelines so it would be wise to seek treatment by a specialist team even though it will involve travelling. I know you asked for experiences of others on the injections for 6 years with another 3 planned but I think it unlikely there will be any.
