Advice needed: Extremely Heavy Period

Hi all,

I was advised to come off the combined pill until I have the mirena coil fitted next month. Before I came off the pill I passed a decidual cast with a heavy period. I've had one light period since then. I usually have heavy periods but now an extra super tampon is only lasting me an hour- so about 10-15ml per hour.

Any advice for how to stop bleeding so heavily? I can't live my life at all right now. Can't sleep as no matter what I do I bleed through onto the bed, even through towels. The pain is pretty god awful too but it's not even my main concern. I'm even getting worried about how much blood I'm losing!

Many thanks!

You can buy tablets over the counter in boots to minimise bleeding, however something of that volume should really be reported to your doctor - especially if this is out of the ordinary.

There isn’t really a way to stop the bleeding, and if you’re feeling somewhat okay then lots of ibuprofen and water would be my suggestion, but honestly getting checked out at a&e or a walk in clinic would definitely be my priority

Hi,

I too have this heavy bleeding. I can only offer practical advice and that is to use some heavy duty incontinence pads rather than ones designed for periods. They make you feel like you're riding a horse but at least you can go to sleep and leave the house without worrying.

I suffer with extremely heavy periods to the point that I flood through my pad, pants and jeans. It upsets me so much. Menefemic acid tablets work quite well as they clot the blood. I got them from the GP. I would make an appointment with them to tell them the situation you find yourself on. I once went and bled through the chair at the doctors, it was humiliating but they could see that I was telling the truth xx
