Hoping for some advice or ideas really. I was diagnosed via laparoscopy last November and endometriosis was removed with a laser. Since then I have had no treatment other than painkillers. My gynaecologist told me that my only options were the pill or mirena coil, neither of which I was prepared to use because of the impact synthetic hormones have on my mental health (I'd rather be in pain than depressed and suicidal if that's my choice!).
She was of the opinion that what she did during my lap should have sorted me out but it really hasn't. If anything I'm in more pain now than I was before. I went back to my GP to ask for a referral to an endo specialist as I'm now wondering whether a) my endo has grown back already or b) there's more there than she found and ideally, if I need more surgery I'd like excision to be considered. My GP said that they couldn't refer to an endo specialist and that referral had to come from a gynaecologist (not sure that's true but whatever) and instead have referred me to a different gynaecologist.
My appointment is tomorrow and I'm getting a little nervous about it now. I'm really not comfortable with being messed around with again by someone who isn't an expert and as such I don't want anything from this gynae other than a referral but I'm not sure how to express this without getting his back up. Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Wow, that's really helpful, thank you so much. I was given very little information when I was discharged after my lap but from the info I was given I think I'm probably stage 2. I'll take that info with me tomorrow.
You said you run a support group? I've just started a Nottingham support group after doing my training with Endo UK a little while ago. It would be great to chat with you about that sometime too.
What do you mean by removed by laser? If ablation was performed, no wonder you're still in pain or in more pain even. You need to seek an extremely skilled and experienced endometriosis surgeon trained in advanced excision. Please PM me to get the names of the top in the country working within the NHS.
