Am I unrealistic post hysterectomy

I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy, ovaries removed, bowel shave and endo removal just coming up to 4 weeks ago. I was discharge after 1 night in hospital and thought I was recovering well until 10 days post op when I started bleeding very heavy and ended up back in hospital for a few days on antibiotics & bed rest. I tried to rest but felt guilty as my 70 yr old mum & demented dad moved in to help. I went out most days as dad goes stir crazy indoors. My mum was great with housework & cooking but I still had to make all decisions, sort out daughter, homework and keep “life as normal as possible”. They went home 4 days ago and I’m more relaxed now.

I’m still bleeding but light and still having what feel like mild period pains. I am only driving short distances to take my daughter to school and doing some light housework. I try to walk daily and do pelvic floor exercises and I’m definitely feeling stronger than I did.

My family say rest but I feel I should be doing more! I have 4 weeks before I start a new job and anxious I’m not helping myself enough.

Honestly, I think you can best help yourself by resting! Resting can feel so counterintuitive as we feel we should be doing the most we can all the time. But you will be better faster if you rest now. If you make your recovery go backwards by doing too much you’ll struggle with your daughter and your new job.

Try to enjoy your time recuperating. It’s the most productive thing to do right now xx

I'd say rest as much as you can, although I know it's hard! Everything is going well but you still have lots of healing to do inside and 4 weeks is still fairly early days. You only have a short time to maximise your recovery so try and make the most of it. Normal life will return before you know it :0)
