Bruising and cancer.: I never used to... - Endometriosis UK
Bruising and cancer.
It could be iron, B12 and blood platelet levels (clotting) so it may be something to go back to your GP and ask for a full set of blood tests, including blood sugar, iron and thyroids, then see what comes back.
What makes you feel it's cancer? A thickening on bowel could be endo on bowel, this can affect reabsorption of some vitamins and minerals.
I’m worried it’s colon cancer because of me bruising easily and due to a problem with my platet count
See if after the mri with the results they can take some biopsies depending on where it is in your bowel as to how easy it is to do them. I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry about what it could be and just enjoy now because that's precious, we all don't know what the future will hold xx
Considering you have stage 4 endo and thickening of the bowels it is more likely to be anaemia caused by lack of B12. Thickening of the bowl by endo makes it very hard for your body to absorb nutrients. B12 is essential for multiple functions of the body including the production of red blood cells, and platelets, it’s also very important in the normal functioning of your nervous system and immune system.
Low platelet counts, and bruising go hand and hand, so you are bruising easily because of the reduced platelet count – which means you are not clotting as fast as other people. This is one of the major signs of a vitamin B12 deficiency.
I would seriously ask for it to be investigated, the issue is, if you have thickening of the bowl, just eating more B12 containing foods or taking a supplement isn’t going to help, as you’re not going to take those nutrients up out of your food. The plus part is that B12 deficiency can be easily treated through B12 injections ( 1 injection lasts around 3 months.)
It’s really unlikely that you have cancer, B12 deficiency however is very common in women with bowl endometriosis.
I had this - I had a haemotemetra (sorry if not spelled correctly) which is a blood build up which was causing anaemia. I now have easy bruising again so am back on the folic acid. Please don't worry about cancer - it is just likely to be endo doing weird stuff. Of course tell your Dr your concerns but don't waste your life worrying about what might be just focus on the treatment for what you have got
Am stage 4 with Endo on bowel as well. If we r anything alike.. my periods r so so heavy n getting worse each mt..my iron is permanently low and I bruise if I bump into anything! Def get ur iron levels checked it will put your mind at ease. Avoid Dr Google! Think every Endo symptom that's googled brings back cancer results!! We all get a bit paranoid..u have enough to b dealing with try ur best not to worry yourself anymore
