Do chocolate cysts disappear on their own?

I was recently admitted to hospital with severe abdominal pain, initially thinking it was a bad flare up.

Turns out I have an endometrioma (chocolate cyst) on my left ovary.

I’m currently on Zoladex, it was left that they would monitor the cyst and my pain over the next couple of months.

Is it likely to go by itself? The pain is still very bad.

Xxx

I also have a chocolate cyst and they said they won’t do anything with it. I will follow your post to see what’s said :)

Hi AllthatGlitters 😊 Have you too, how big is yours if you don’t mind me asking? Have you had it long? X

Hi around 1cm, told it was small so they wouldnt do anything about it. I only knew I had it when I got a scan last year but maybe I have had it longer, I don’t know x

Chocolate cysts unfortunately don’t tend to go away themselves. Depending on size then u would need to have it removed as the bigger they get the more painful in my experience. I had mine removed in March and been pain free since x

Hi Katie, I have 3 endometriomas which I will be having removed through a laproscopy. The gynaecologist said usually when there are choc cysts, there is endometriosis present. The blood has escaped from the lining of your womb and entered into your ovaries and possibly other areas. I was told its best to get this removed and sorted so my chances of conceiving are higher and the condition doesn't get worse. It's best to get a second opinion on this by a specialist gynaecologist who deals with endometriosis so you know where you stand. X

Hi yes I'm having excision. I don't have pain, that's the thing. I only found out I had them through fertility testing.

I was told by 2 highly skilled and recommended gynaecologists that the majority of endometrioma cases come with endometriosis. Not all. They also said, endometriosis can be something you are born with. Hence why it's good to get a second opinion and rule out endo.

Hi Cv444, thank you for your reply :) I do have stage 4 endometriosis and have had two previous laps. This is my first chocolate cyst though, and because it was a&e that dealt with me their knowledge was limited! I think I will contact my consultant and ask his advice, I can’t continue being in this pain. Good luck with your laparoscopy :)
