Chocolate cysts

Hi,

I have 2 chocolate cysts (one on each ovary) measuring around 6cm on the last scan. I'm awaiting a laproscopy as the cysts are growing each month.

I have read that there is a link between chocolate cysts and amount on endometriosis found during laproscopy. Does anybody know if this is definitely the case?

Thank you x

choc cysts are a marker for severe endo- this was the way I was diagnosed. But amount of endo found can vary as it’s diff for everyone x

Did you then have a laparoscopy after to see how much there was?

I had a lap initially where they told me I had cysts on both ovaries, endo on my bowel and all over pelvic region - 4yrs later I had excision surgery as I had deep infiltrating endo to try get rid of the endo.

I had one 10cm and one 6cm cyst and when I had my lap the surgeon said it was stage 4 endo. I think I've read somewhere that you won't have cysts without having endo elsewhere.

Yes I've also read this although I'm hoping I'm an exception! Unlikely but we can hope !

I have an endo friend who had multiple surgeries and cyst raptures. The surgeon only found chocolate cysts, nothing else but I am doubting his expertise...

In all other stories I heard, if there was a chocolate cyst, there were endo elsewhere too. Same with me. Both ovaries affected, but had endo on uterosacra ligament and on my bladder too.

Did the surgery help?

It did. Before the surgery I was in pain all day throughout the month. Now I only have 2-3 days of migraine and 1 day of ovarian pain on the first day of my cycle. The cysts from my right ovary could not be removed since they are deep in the middle of it. I guess that is why I am still hurting. But it can not be compared to what I experienced before the procedure.

Was worth the time spent on research for the right treatment at the right place.

I had one on each ovary. They showed during an ultra sound which then led to me having diag lap. Confirmed endo on rectum, tubes and ovaries. Classed as severe as organs involved x

How were you after the lap? Did you have any problems with fertility? X

Fine after lap. He drained my cysts and so far (it was nearly 3 yrs ago) the left one hasn't returned. Right one has but it's also now attached itself to my urethra. It's half the size it was though.

Fertility wise. Never been pregnant. 1st ivf July this yr which failed.

I have 3 frozen so fingers crossed one of them sticks. I had 8 eggs from 11 follicles from left ovary only as my right one was too high to collect from.

I'm 38 so not too bad considering my age and only one side x

My consultant told me that cysts on both ovaries usually indicates stage 4 - I had a 10cm one removed from one ovary and a smaller one on the other, they found lots of adhesions and freed parts that were stuck elsewhere - have been feeling pretty good since me laparoscopy which was 8 months ago, wishing you all the best with yours xxx

My consultant didn't mention the severity of having cysts which is strange. I only discovered this from reading online. Fingers crossed the lap will help. Thank you xxx

What sort of scan diagnosed your chocolate cysts? I had an ultrasound and they said I have ‘textbook ovaries’ I am currently awaiting an internal scan.

I had two ultrasounds both on my stomach and internal. I also then had an MRI as I was showing as having 3 cysts-only 2 were chocolate though!
