Stabbing pain in bum/pelvis

Pinkyandthebrain profile image

Does anyone else get horrible stabbing pains during their period or ovulation (or anytime I guess)? It’s like someone is stabbing me up the bum and vagina with huge needles or knives, sometimes it’s so painful to sit down because it feels like I’m sitting on a huge knife up inside me?!

Rectovaginal endometriosis.

My endo is on my bowl ( as well as other places) which causes the internal stabbing pain. It’s awful and nothing you can do it stop it, not that I’ve found anyway. It’s actually quite embarrassing sometimes, I’ve been in a meeting and the pain suddenly comes on. How do you explain that?!

Do you also find sex is really painful? It’s awful.

Hope this has helped you feel like you’re not alone!! X

Thank you, yes - it does help to know I’m not the only one. I have endo on the bowl too so I guess that’s what causes my pain - totally feel you when you say it’s embarrassing!

I do sometimes get pain during sex; the other day it was this horrible aching stab on my right side - kind of how I imagine appendicitis to feel 😭 x

I get it too - it’s so sudden in onset that it makes you move quick. I can get it any time of the month.

My endo is all around my lower bowel where it goes into the rectum!

No great advice I’m afraid it’s just something I just manage at the time.

I’m due bowel resection soon so hopefully that will chop out the offending area 🤞🏻

Thanks for replying - yes, sometimes you feel fine and then BAM! knitting needles?! I also have endo on the bowel so it makes sense for us to be experiencing similar feelings.

How are you feeling about the bowel resection, will you be posting on here about it? X

I’m nervous as hell and have avoided it for years! I’ve seen a colorectal surgeon and he hoping they can shave off the damage instead but it depends on how deep they need to go. I’m hoping it will be a shave but if not he feels it would be a case of not needing a colostomy (my biggest fear) but more a join back together inside and longer in hospital. I’m a nurse which doesn’t help as ‘too much info’.

I’m at the point where I can’t carry on like this so it’s worth a try. I probably will post - depends how it goes.

I can totally understand the nerves; lots of respect to you for making this decision about your health. I really hope you get some good results with pain reduction 🙏🏻 Sending positive thoughts and love to you for a speedy recovery xx

All the time. That is my main endo pain I get. It's horrible. I can't really find any help for the pain when it comes like I just need to stand up I know that. Or like kneel down on the floor and just wait for it to stop.

It’s awful isn’t it, really sorry to hear you’re experiencing it so much too. I just feel like I want to lay down when I get really bad ones but that’s easier said than done at work 😂

Thanks for replying, although I wouldn’t wish this on anyone it is nice to feel less alone x

Erugh yes! I remember telling someone about it in school thinking everyone got it and was looked at like a crazy person. I’ve had two laps and they’ve not told me I have endo on my bowel though.

O yes I would get a stabbing pain like someone had shoved a red hot poker up my rectum. This would happen randomly throughout the month. I would also get a dull heavy, ache around my rectum and buttocks.
