Anyone have any knowledge on endometrioma cysts?

So I had emergency surgery in 2015 for a ruptured cyst and a tear in my ovary. They discovered endometriosis.

Fast forward to now and I'm back in the UK. I had a diagnostic laparoscopy in February and was told there was no endometriosis but I've got to wait until May to see the gynaecoloist.

My GP sent me for an ultrasound on 20th March for a separate reason but the sonographer found a 5cm cyst on my right ovary.

My GP phoned me yesterday and said the cyst is an endometrioma and that typically they require surgery but she will send everything to my consultant for when I go in May.

I mentioned that my pain has been getting progressively worse and the only advice she gave me was to go to A&E if it gets too bad. I'm trying to avoid googling and scaring myself silly.

So my questions are..

Do they always require surgery?

Can they go away without rupturing?

Is it normal for them to cause pain?

What actually is an endometrioma?

ls it the same as a hemmoragic cyst?

Hi 👋 I’ve had two of these now and both had to be removed via laparoscopy along with endometriosis. They can rupture and get bigger and are unlikely to go on their own. They are inside your ovaries and are made if “old blood “...this is thought to be from “period backflow”. They are different from hemmoragic cysts. Mine caused crippling pain and when they were removed my surgeon said the pain was caused by the weight if it pulling my ovary down and pressing on a nerve.

I would push to get it removed as if it ruptures it can be dangerous and 5cm is pretty bug for that kind of cyst.
