Can bowel issues arise even if no endo on bowel its self?

I had a laparoscopy yesterday where an endo cyst was removed from one ovary, scar tissue removed from my appendix, and the other ovary was detached from my pelvic wall as it had stuck there.

I’ve had severe pain on my left side for many years, and have to use tap water enemas or glycerin suppositories to make me “go”. I don’t break food down properly either.

Could the endo have been connected to this problem? Has anyone had endo not on the bowel but yet affecting the bowel?

I know time will tell, since my op was only yesterday! But I’m confused!

I don't know for sure where my endo is exactly as I am still waiting for my first appointment with the endo specialist to try and get a diagnostic laparoscopy, but I also get awful bowel symptoms all month round, some like what you describe.

I spend half my month constipated and half my month with diarrhoea, I get horrific pain in either my left or right hand side (mostly left) but never at both sides at the same time, and this can get worse or better by having a bowel movement. Even pushing to pee when this pain in there can be excruciating. I was told by a consultant at the hospital that with endo that I just have to accept that it can be like this with it... makes you feel great doesn't it!

I wish I could be of more help to answer your question, but all I know is that this endometriosis for sure effects my bowels like nothing I've ever known in my life and it goes in tune with my cycle every month. I've had tests to rule other stuff out that could effect my bowels, and they're all fine, so it has so far been put down to endo.

Thank you so much for your reply! It certainly isn’t what you want to hear is it? I guess the only positive is that there probably isn’t another condition going on at the same time. It sucks though!

You’ve reassured me that the endo could’ve been causing the bowel probs, or at least some of them. The surgeon thought it would be nothing to do with it, but I guess our bodies are so complex, no one knows for sure!

My bowel movement are never in a set pattern, just randomly do their own thing, although days 1and 2 are always loose.

Praying you will be healed and healthy. x

Hi,

I too have a lot of pain related to my bowel. I don't know why, but i thought that it is possible to have endo IN the bowel. I could be totally wrong.

The trouble is that each department seems to keep themselves completely separate. I was told that gynae don't deal with gut and bowel.

Good luck managing your pain.

Tx

Thank you Tinks2, I’m sure the bowel must be affected one way or another when other things are stuck together! You’re right, wouldn’t a holistic approach be amazing! It’s taken 20 years for this diagnosis 💜

Could be the medications constipating you or just the chronic inflammation/fluid in your pelvic area compressing your bowel making it more difficult to pass!

Thank you for your message x

I think having things stuck together must cause problems l, even if no endo was found on the bowel its self.

I’ve refused to take codeine as I know that will stuff things up completely, and am grateful the pain has been manageable so far. We are just so used to pain aren’t we? It’s a drain 💚

I know.. I almost forget when people ask me how my pain is that my baseline pain is STILL pain. If it’s not above an 8/10 I’m like oh no I’m fine it’s all good. Best of luck xx

It can actually effect your bowels and anything in that area.

Sometimes the endo likes to stick to things outside your uterus.

It can grow on the outside of your organs. Everything is so close together. So sometimes it’ll grow somewhere? Then you’ll have a movement that sort of annoys the endo tissue.

I’ve had it outside my bladder quite bad. So it hurt to pee but it wasn’t actually in my bladder, it was outside.

If it grows outside organs, your body cavity has all the organs pretty close.

Sometimes endo will stick organs together? I’ve had that a lot. Then you have a chance of adhesions from any damage. So yeah, you’re pain , the endo might be the cause

But I heard this is a common issues.

I’ve been taking into hospital from pains I couldn’t handle.

I’ve passed blood and went weeks without a movement.

I thought it was more common. I’ve spoken to other women who have the same issue.

They can look into your bladder and your bowels and such. To see if it’s inside the organs. If not, it may be outside the organs annoying your endo
