Update on a post I made about 7 months ago.
I tried out a Jaydess coil, which has been interesting.
Background - I'm 29, never had kids. Suspected endo due to bad period pains and severe pain on pooing during my period. No laparoscopy.
The reason I chose the Jaydess over the Mirena was its smaller size and lower dose of hormone. I was extremely sensitive to the hormones in the Mirena when I had it 5 years ago, it made my hair shed dramatically and I also felt as though its size was causing bad cramping pains.
The coil fitting went very well, because the doctor prescribed valium and codeine. I think the valium had a muscle relaxant effect which stopped the intense cramping which crippled me both times I had the coil fitted in the past. I essentially refused to have a fitting without serious pain relief/muscle relaxant.
Endo wise, the dyschezia pains (agony to poo) I was having with suspected endo has subsided to being very minimal using the Jaydess however I still have light bleeds regularly every month. I still get bouts of tender abdomen, stomach upset, constipation etc related to the endo.
Some side effects that may or may not be endo related have been regular cramping a few times a week, sometimes extreme cramping after physical activity, which seems to be worsened in some way by the Jaydess. During the first three months I was having really terrible angry cramps, but they have eased down now I'm 7 months in. Other Jaydess side effects I've noticed are some increase in thickness of chin hairs (ew), and greasy skin and hair for the first three months. But no hair shedding! Success!
Overall, I'm really glad I tried it as I struggled with the Mirena side effects as someone sensitive to the hormone in the device.
However, I've now decided to go on the pill on top of the Jaydess to supress the bleeding that is still occurring, and I hope this will in turn ease some of the cramping.
Having to use the pill on top of the Jaydess isn't ideal. However, before I had the Jaydess I was continuously taking the contraceptive pill and this was not enough to suppress my bleeding either. Hopefully using both at the same time will work.
I plan on writing another update in a few months time when things settle into a routine.
I hope this is useful to someone out there, as there is little info on Jaydess and endo. Good luck endo sisters!
