Worried!!: Hi I was told I had... - Endometriosis UK
Worried!!
Endometriosis does not, unfortunately come and go! There is no cure, was your gynaecologist an endo specialist? How did they know you had it 10 years ago? x
How do they know you had it 10 years ago? They can't tell the time it's been since you had endo, well not that specific.
Is your doctor an endo specialist? If not and you think it's endo you need to see a specialist, so have a look at the BSGE website for guidance or the endometriosis uk website. A specialist will visually have a look via a laparoscopy with a few incisions, they will know what to look for and then will discuss with you what you can do next. General gynae will not know specifically what to look for and may have only looked around the biopsy site so may have missed lots of your abdomen.
Endometriosis doesn't come and go, if you have it, it's there for life. The endo tissue can only be removed or reduced by laparoscopic exision, hormones etc will only slow growth. Nothing can reverse it, if that makes sense. Once you have it excised it will regrow but excision ensures regrowth is slower; it removed all the endo and a bit of healthy tissue. Other methods of removal are lazer (heat, diathermy) and ablation (sanding), but these only remove the top layers and so regrowth is quicker as the rest of the endo is still there, that's why it's important to see an endo specialist as they'll do the excision laparoscopy and can do that with the diagnostic if you ask, so you won't need to wait for two operations.
