Hello everybody, had mirena inserted nearly a month ago. Bled moderately immediately after, then a week off then my period started which hasnt stopped since. Had lots of cramping for a week and now it feels mostly fine. Bleeding isnt particularly heavy but am having to wear pads as it comes in small gushes rather than just being a constant trickle has anyone had similar and its cleared up on its own? Im really hoping it will go away and dont want it out just yet.
Thanks

HI I had bleeding with the Mirena it got better after 6 months ? My bleeding never actually stopped. But it really helped with my pain so i kept with it. I went to an info day and the Mirena doesn't stop ovulation in some women. I had very heavy bleeding at times so sounds like your situation is better.
Do you have an endo nurse to contact about how the Mirena is going ?
Sorry to say, I was the same. The bleeding got lighter after about 4 months, and then stopped altogether after 6. I started getting quite normal flow periods (massive improvement), which have got progressively lighter ever since, and some months it is just spotting now.
It is awful wearing pads for months and months on end, and my doctor advised no tampons to start with, so I couldn't even take the kids swimming. But it can be completely worth it, so hang on in there.
My pain is much less frequent now - I think I'm maybe only ovulating every 3 or 4 months, and that's when i get the worst pain.
No endo nurse, was booked in for laparoscopy 18 months ago but ended up getting pregnant just before my op date.. :/ if the mirena fails to improve my symptoms will be going back on the list. Do seem to be in less pain over all but wasnt suffering too much as breastfeeding and that had surpressed my periods ( had only one when I got the coil fitted ). I guess I can live with it for the time being as really want to avoid lap until ive stopped breastfeeding which realistically would be atleast a year. Sorry waffling.. anyway in glad it helped with your pain, thats the hope for me. Dont want it to get to the levels it was at pre pregnancy. Mirena really seems like the ideal contraception as I cant tolerate any oral contraception. If the bleeding stops eventually and pain is kept at bay it would be a good trade. If I dont have a period for a few years, even better. Also, knowing that endo is likely to effect fertility I feel very blessed. Thankyou both for your replies. Its really helpful to speak to people in the same boat.
